I'd like to be able to configure applications in SyMenu to open minimized/maximized/normal. Is that a possibility in the future? |

It's working great so far for me. I had been using the BETA with network support for quite some time and am now using the released version. Nice work! |

FYI, the link you posted to eXpresso is no longer working. I did find one here: http://www.lupopensuite.com/db/expresso.htm edited by timrray on 1/22/2014 |

I think it would be very handy to be able to configure autostart items to only happen on certain computers. Perhaps by using the %COMPUTERNAME% environment variable. |

Excellent! It would be really cool if you could use multiple computer names too, just in case you want to start up something on more than one computer!
Thanks Gianluca! Keep up the good work! |

SyMenu suite

I like the idea, but also am wondering if an ability to import/export could accomplish the same thing. For example, if I wanted to share an entry (or group) with someone else, it would be cool if I could export it to a new location with the files and entries in the item itself. If it included all the same fields you have set up for the app (name, description, URL, etc), that would be really cool.
I'm in IT and have a lot of tools that I'd like to be able to share with others easily like this. I've been copying my entire setup for others and removing the stuff I don't want them to have currently. It's a little cumbersome and maybe this could help. |

Changes to search?

First, I have to say THANKS for including the computername filter. It's working exactly like I had hoped it would
2nd, I'd like to confirm something. In the past, when I searched in SyMenu, I thought I had been seeing results based on what is in the Description field, not just the program's name. Was this intentional? That was a very useful feature to me as I would put some keywords in the description so I could remember what the tool was for.
Also, I seem to be missing the ability to turn off showing the locally installed programs. Was there ever that option? |

Open Config Form

I just noticed this discussion regarding command line parameters for SyMenu. I think a few additional command line switches could be useful to Symenu (or perhaps just options that could be configured on startup):
1) How about a /noautoexec parameter or something similar so you could disable autorun items entirely on certain machines where SyMenu runs at startup? Perhaps the computername filter could apply here as well?
2) How about a /nostartmenu switch so it doesn't show up on machines you don't want it to, or even make it only run on Windows 8 for example?
3) How about an /alwayselevate switch so you could have it automatically elevate SyMenu on startup? I personally would like to see an option to do this so I could run one SyMenu as my normal account, and run another instance as my administrative level account.
Anyway, I thought I'd throw my 2 cents worth on that. I had been meaning to suggest these for some time now! |

OK, thanks for clarifying. I'll just update my shortcut names when necessary. I've got so many tools in there now it's hard to find the right one sometimes!! |

Ipconfig /flushdns

Hello again! I recently noticed something that used to work and now doesn't. I've created a Windows command to run "ipconfig /flushdns". When the command runs, the window shows up and says it's executing it but no text ever shows up. Other commands seem to work, and I've asked someone else to reproduce this and they can as well. Attached is a screenshot of the output. |

I also saw the workaround you suggested and yes, that does work. I just figured it was strange so I shipped it your way. Thanks for looking at it anyway. |

Request - Read only mode change
timrray
|
Hello there, I was just wondering if it would be possible in the future to change (or add to) the options to enable read-only mode. One problem I frequently have is while running Symenu on multiple computers at once. I've had a couple occasions where my config files get corrupted when I make a change to Symenu while it's running via google drive sync with another machine that is also running it. If I do that, then exit out of Symenu, once I exit out of it on the other computer it seems to overwrite the config file and the change reverts. My request would be to enable some form of change to allow write mode on one machine, but let the others run in read-only mode. Or possibly detect that somehow and account for it when exiting the menu? |

I just thought of something, what if you were to use the COMPUTERNAME filter you've applied to the startup option to enable write mode for only that computer? |

Yes, I was just thinking something similar to the autoexec filter but have it configured in the main configuration window (program level, not at the SyItem level. It was just an idea. Another idea I had was using a /readonly type switch on the app but I know how much you hate command line switches |

New version issues

I've been struggling with the new version that was just released recently. I've got 2 different problems currently (and is reproduced on 2 entirely different environments):
1) When Managing SPS apps, the 'Get apps online' link doesn't do anything. When I first open the manager, the link is OK for the SyMenu Suite. If I switch to one of the other tabs, it won't let me click on it in any of them anymore.
2) The 'First Configuration' wizard keeps showing up randomly for me. I'll get it working again and it comes back. I've had 2 separate instances of Symenu do this recently, home and work. I've somehow been able to get it back by replacing the config.zip to an older version but for some reason it works a couple times and then goes back to starting the first configuration wizard. If I complete that wizard, there are NO entries and it is basically back to the original configuratoin. This problem is obviously much more serious than the SPS manager. |

I just noticed something that may be pertinent. I've got a copy of my setup on a local disk as well as a network share. If I run it from the local disk, it works. From the network share it does not. The share and file permissions are set up correctly and I've also reproduced this at work. Do you have any other suggestions to try? |

I like it as well. One thing I might suggest is a way to remove "new" from new ones you've seen the last time you looked. From one day to the next it's difficult to see when items are added that are truly new. |
