Yes there is.

Handbrake is now available in another version, the Handbrake portable (x64) while the Sysinternals suite is now merged in the main suite.
BTW welcome in the forum!

Ok, i understand that. But is easier for the SyMenu user to update the applications using the update feature than have to download and uncompress the zip file.

?????
If we decide to switch from an application to the corresponding portable version the reason is only to grant you the maximum portability.

In the magical SyMenu world the update process is exactly the same when you download an exe package or a zip package. Indeed as a normal user, if you want, you don't need to deal with the package type.

To make an example the Handbrake portable version from https://portapps.io/ is cleaner than the previous version and SyMenu will take care for its updates from now on.

I don't know if the switch makes sense for you now.

Me too!!!

ilovetesting wrote:
Some applications have the portable version but using the auto update from SyMenu is much easier.

Again, favoring portability doesn't imply we lose the automatic update feature. SyMenu rulez with both options wink

The SysInternals has lots of small applications/utilities like NirSoft and having them on another tab would have a better organization

I agree, well I agree with the assertion that Sysinternals and NirSoft are GREAT suites, but remember that you can use the filter search to have a list full with Sysinternals programs only.

In a future version I will implement an option to save a custom search. So if you often search for Sysinternals, you can save the search and have it in a form of a button. Nice and comfortable, more than a tabbed solution.

I love when the users contribute with their opinions to SyMenu. If we've reached this point is thanks to you all!

It's impossible.
SyMenu distributes third party software and it's on the respective software authors to decide how to package their programs.
Anyway are you sure that the disk space could be a real problem today?

the package director needs the information whether the app is 32-bit or 64-bit and we need the way to filter out 32-bit ones for those that also have their 32-bit counterpart.

Let's remove from our discussion all the programs that are already tagged from their authors and that we make recognizable with the (x86) and (x64) suffixes. These ones are already filterable and I think your problem is not on them.

We remain with two kind of programs:
- those ones that have both the executable in the same package;

- those ones that are compiled for a certain platform (32bit or 64bit) but the author doesn't specify which one directly in the program name.

The first ones are impossible to unpack correctly. Nobody except the author can know which are the subordinate files needed from one platform and the other. We can't reverse engineer every single program published in the SyMenu Suite. Remember that here you find everything for free and the contributors are all volunteers. These are the available resources so the activity you propose is too demanding

The second one will be theoretically viable but it represents an aggravation of the editing work that is senseless. Again everyone here work for free! We all have 64bit platform today, so who does care if the only version available of a certain program is for 32bit or 64bit? In so many years nobody asked me if SyMenu is for 32 or 64bit platform...

Actually space is a problem if you keep SyMenu on system SSDs. Currently, my SyMenu installation is over 45 GB and is by far the biggest part (besides the system itself, of course) and this is a problem for my laptops and even desktops where my system SSD is mere 250GB.

Dear friend, with all my respect, your problem is not the way SyMenu manage its programs, your problem is your need for software.
My SyMenu installation is around 10GB and it's quite enough for my use.
I'm not saying that you installed more programs than you need, I'm just saying that your needs should suggest you to upgrade your disk.

You are right... the expected behavior is to log nothing if you uncheck the two log options.

I need to investigate the code because it's probably a little bug.
If I find it, you'll get a fix directly on the next version.
Thank you for reporting it.

OK I've just checked the code.

Even if you disable the two options I need to know several things:
1) the folder existence. If it doesn't exist it'll be created;
2) the tables existence;
3) the write permission on folder and db file.

I can't avoid these checks because you are allowed to change the log options during the program execution and I need to be ready for this on the fly change.
Anyway your workaround is not to wait for my modify, that I probably won't do, but to put the log folder in read-only state.

If it works, please report that here.

As you can see here https://www.ugmfree.it/SyMenuManual.aspx#CommandLine SyMenu already grants a lot of path customizations.

It's not a problem to add the path for the log this way, but you should use a customized shortcut with a new command line parameter to execute SyMenu. I don't know if you'd be willing to do that.

Anyway, I'm a power user of Dropbox and I have a similar problem with several folders (not a SyMenu thing anyway).
The solution in Dropbox and in any other synchronization tool is to use the selective sync.
Here's the OneDrive solution for this: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/choose-which-onedrive-folders-to-sync-to-your-computer-98b8b011-8b94-419b-aa95-a14ff2415e85

Well, when I speak about the NirSoft I was speaking of a future scenario. The NirSoft has got currently its own tab and I'll maintain it for a few.
The Sysinternals suite has disappeared and is now incorporated in the SyMenu main suite.
Sorry if I was not so clear.

You are right about the ease of use of the massive actions. Unfortunately I have no idea on a way to make it easier.
If anyone has a better idea I'm opened to any proposal.

Well normally with multiple items selected a right mouse click would give one options to perform on those selected items.

This is right when you have consistent actions to apply on every selected items.
In SyMenu you can have a three different actions: add, update, delete.

And any action has a completely different consequence on your item.

For example if you check a program that is not yet installed and a program that is already installed, what I have to do if you ask for a massive deletion?

The delete action is inconsistent on a program not yet installed so what do you, as a user, expect SyMenu will do for you in this scenario?

Indeed it's true before you press the button but as soon as you press it, you are asked for a confirmation for every uninstallation.
If you are uninstalling 10 programs and install 5, the alert ask you a confirmation for the first ones listing then one by one.

Sure you can.

You can change the taskbar icon through the Options form (https://www.ugmfree.it/SyMenuManual.aspx#Advanced_menu_Options_Theme)

Pay attention to this customization... to change the SyMenu taskbar icon you have to change three icons: the normal one, the one with the red light, and the one with the green.

Then you can change the floating icon too if you are using it.
Go here https://www.ugmfree.it/SyMenuManual.aspx#Customization and read the last paragraph.

Please report if the solution suits your needs.

By default the search bar is located in the contextual menu. If you don't find it, you probably had removed it before. Go to the options - structure and restore it.

What you see in the contextual menu are not categories, but your personal items organization. When you install a program SyMenu can help you creating a folder named accordingly with the program category but it's only an option and you can deactivate it. I don't know what your configuration is, probably you installed some of your items with the assisted mode and other without it.

Anyway you can always change your current items organization, it's completely open.

So if I understand correctly the log sql file will need be put read-only on every machine where it is installed?

It's one solution but you have others.

For example you can set the entire Log folder to read only. This way you prevent a future creation of other files (unplanned).

You can tell OneDrive not to sync the Log folder.

Plus with the next version, that is just a few days away, you'll have a new command line parameter to redirect the Log folder in another location of your choice.

Anyway I think the most correct way to operate is removing the Log folder from sync.

I see from the next message that you plan to release with the config option to direct - this is good news! Thank you.

Indeed it'll be a command line parameter solution not a config one. But it'll solve the Log path customization issue the same.

It's incredible that OneDrive is not able to manage a simple sync exception.

When you unsync a folder, Dropbox too removes it, but if you create the folder again, DB understands that you want to have it and leaves it on your FS without synchronizing it.
IMHO it's not perfect (why the hell it needs to remove it locally when you unsync it???) but if you follow its rules, it works.

New SyMenu version 6.10

Dear all,
The first 2020 version is finally out.

This time the news are more technical than handy.
I would like to comment two of them.

1) All the libraries are removed from the program root and grouped under the lib folder
Well it's true the SyMenu root folder was a mess... there was a lot of "useless" files and now I moved them in a subfolder (Lib). I hope the cleaning can be appreciated.

2) The custom themes can now be extended to draw the forms too (beta)
If you prefer to have a colorful application you can now extend the theme for contextual menu to all the forms. Well probably not every colors combination will work but the feature should be quite good as it this now.

A user reported to me that the automatic alert for the new program update doesn't work. If you force the SyMenu update everything works well but he had no clue that a new version is available. Is there anyone else that can confirm this problem?

If you have any question I'm here.

It's really strange and it seems caused by a program general problem not a specific one of the SPS manager.

You should go to the task manager, go to the Details, add the column GDI object and tell me how many object SyMenu is using when you have this problem.

Ok then, I thought it was tied to the problem we discussed here https://www.ugmfree.it/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=494 but it's not your case.
Can you deactivate the new beta feature please? I'm speaking about "Themed forms". I suspect that it could be a simple problem in this colors combination.

Wow... luckly!
With a different color schema you'll be probably able to reactivate the beta feature.
