Unreal Commander has changed so much with the latest versions... The author decided to split the x86 and x64 versions in two executable available on the same folder. The real executable remains the old Uncom.exe (32) that decides what to launch based on the architecture of your PC.
I don't like very much this approach because there are some plugins for Unreal/Total commander that only works with the 32 bit version of the program. So my idea was to leave the user free to choose the program architecture to launch and to ignore the automatic launcher (Uncom.exe).
These kind of updates, where the executable structure changes so much, are very complex to manage for SyMenu because it remains with the old item pointing to Uncom.exe and adds two new items related to the new launchers UnrealCommander32.exe and UnrealCommander64.exe.
This complex change could create problem during this particular update. You solved all the problems with a fresh new installation and I fear it's the only way to avoid all the issues. edited by Gianluca on 04/04/2017 |

Wikipedia is deleting SyMenu
GianlucaAdministrator
|
Hi all.
As you surely know SyMenu has a page on Wikipedia. You can find it here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SyMenu I created this page on 2009 but now, after 8 years, it seems that SyMenu is no longer worthy to be part of the wiki family and its page is under deletion.
Well I'm not so expert in Wikipedia rules but it seems a bit extreme to ban SyMenu. According to the Wikipedia comparison page for desktop launcher (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_desktop_application_launchers) all the other programs in the list, that have a page on Wikipedia, are not under deletion: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appetizer_(software) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASuite https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classic_Shell https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LiberKey https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PortableApps.com https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SliderDock
So what's up? WTF?
If someone is interested in taking part to this surreal discussion, please give your contribution here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/SyMenu |

Since the program is probably searching for the %PUBLIC% environment variable you should try with this: PUBLIC=.\User
If you redefine the %PUBLIC%\Documents SyMenu will try to replace the entire string as it is an environment variable. So it search for %%PUBLIC%\Documents% instead. Since this variable doesn't exists SyMenu creates a new variable and doesn't replace the old one. Remember to insert the environment variable name without the % symbol. I think it's impossible to convince the program to write its files inside a folder called PublicDocs if it is searching for a folder called Documents. But anyway it's not a problem if this folder is inside the program root.
I suggest you to use the program RapidEE (available on the SyMenu Suite) to test your redefinition attempts. My procedure: - insert the new variable in the RapidEE through SyMenu configuration - execute the program and read the result of your redefinition.

Yes it's a good idea. Anyway since it's not related to the graphical reorganization, I will surely implement it but not in the next version. |

Search not indexing folders

Nope. The administrative mode is useful for other tasks. The folders are indexed only if you are using the linked folders. The SyContainers instead are only grouping elements and there are no reasons to find them in search. |

Probably you haven't enabled the Search in File System options. Read here https://www.ugmfree.it/SyMenuManual.aspx#SearchItems4 and please tell me if it works this way. |

Windows 10 is not responsible (this time). Are you sure you are allowed to enter the indexed folder with the user is executing SyMenu? I told you that the administrative mode is useless with the search, but at least you must be allowed to access those folders. |

Minor bug?

No reasons naturally. It's probably a bug but it's not a bug as our usual ones... usually in SyMenu we have bugs that threaten the destruction of the space-time continuum This one is not so serious so in the meanwhile use the separators. |

What do you think about my new study?
New buttons instead of the old links and a new auto update feature with a customizable update interval. Stay tuned. |

And this is a new evolution. Not final anyway.
The Trash button is approaching the Exit button because I'm thinking about your proposal to create an option for auto-trashing on exit.
sl23 wrote:
will you be adding the Bin size info next to the icon still? The information about the trash size is already available on a tooltip hover the button. Indeed if the trash is an auto arranging one, who care what its size is...
sl23 wrote:
do we really need the option to remove an app? Yes. Just imagine this scenario: you have an update available and don't want that program anymore. Without the delete you have to update it to be able to delete it. It doesn't work. The delete option is fundamental.

the drive bar would be more aesthetically pleasing if it were the same width as the App Description above it [...] and changing the colour to a light blue to match the rest of the 'theme.' The empty space next to the drive bar is needed for particular messages such as read only drive or similar. The solid color is a good idea. |

symenu autostart: very minor but irritating issue
GianlucaAdministrator

Try this: start SyMenu in admin mode, set the option to autorun SyMenu when Windows starts, then restart SyMenu in normal mode and check if the option is still set. Since SyMenu writes that option in the registry you should have elevated privileges to success in that. |

I haven't understood clearly what is your scenario but it seems you've found a bug here. Can you create a schema with all the combination you've checked and send to me in private please? Thanks. |

1. The previous layout was neater. I'm still working on it don't worry. sl23 wrote:
2. Auto trash may not be such a great idea. I have been saved several times by this great backup system. By now you should have understood the SyMenu golden rule: everything is customizable! So don't worry. The auto trash, when available, will be optionally. sl23 wrote:
3. Love the trash tooltip idea. Me too sl23 wrote:
4. Good point about Remove App, didn't realise that. Ok sl23 wrote:
5. My intention for the drive bar was to simply be shortened a few pixels so it's right hand edge would be in line with the App descriptions right hand edge. Ok |

RESOLVED: Webroot + SyMenu = W32.Trojan.Gen
GianlucaAdministrator

It's really strange. I've just resubmitted SyMenu.zip to Virustotal and Webroot doesn't report any virus. Check it here: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/591181b2255b57c12fa5b6550b091e44deb302f5009b7c8e0992af0c608b6fba/analysis/1493072214/ Maybe your system is really infected by a virus that is duplicating itself in other executable files (it's an old-style virus behavior). My advise is to clean up everything with your AV and then download all the deleted programs again. Regarding SyMenu save your configuration before (folder Config). And let me know how it'll solve please. |

Wow guys. The new design is ready and finally it works. I found the right solution for the SPS Manager.
And I'm including a long awaited feature too: you'll find a new attribute for your programs to always execute them in elevate mode with no need of the execution modifier.
Stay tuned for the beta version. |

New SyMenu beta version 5.11
GianlucaAdministrator

Hi guys.
The beta version is ready.
These are the new features:
- A SyProgram can be flagged with Run as Admin to execute it in with elevated privileges
- SPS Manager - The form is completely redrawed
- SPS Manager - The native program suites now update their definitions automatically. The interval between the updates is customizable.
For any feedback, please report.

Well your scenario is not the only possible one. Think about this one: you work with a normal user even if you have the credential for an administrative access. When you want to execute something in elevated mode you can do it with the Run As option. So you need to see all the programs regardless your current logged user. |

IMHO all the suggestions for a proper implementation of the UAC rules inside the UI are a bit confusing... or maybe I am too limited to understand the usefulness of all these shades. I want to evaluate if a deeper implementation for SyMenu is really a need or not. For sure I won't hide items with an option unless this option is tied with the current machine name. A similar feature is available for the Autoexec on start and on quit but it's a huge work to follow these shema and I'm not sure it worths. So great cue but low priority! |
