I'm trying out this program but the hotkey doesn't seem to work all the time. When some other programs are maximized, like for instance Thunderbird, hotkeys don't work, no matter what hotkey is set and regardless of whether that hotkey is used in Thunderbird

When SyMenu is running, using rightclick in any other program adds a considerable lack to open the context menu.

If I make any changes to the 'Structure' those changes will be discarded and SyMenu will revert to default settings the next time I open the Configuration settings.

Hi, the problem is definitely SyMenu.

When running the rightclick menu is slow everywhere (Explorer, browser, other apps) and when not running everything is fine.

I disabled Symenu autoexec on start, makes no difference.

edit: I tried a new clean portable install and SyMenu doesn't slow down rightclick so it has be a setting i changed.

It was indeed the gesture thingy, I did try that but it didn't work. With this enabled the end result makes things absolutely unworkable. What do you mean by a really fast PC? That's kind of vague.

I don't quite understand why this doesn't work. I've tried a different program called PSmenu, which is similar to SyMenu though with less features. It also has the ability for a hotkey and those hotkeys work fine, even when Thunderbird or any other program is open. I don't open anything in admin mode as far as i know.

I basically wanted to try it because I couldn't get the hotkey thing to work, so I figured I might open the program with a mouse gesture instead. I have never used gestures before though.

I am not sure you should remove it, maybe it works fine for someone and is a nice feature. You might want to make a warning that it could slow down rightclick responsiveness though. My pc may not be atomic speed but it's not particularly slow either, probably at least average speed for the average user interested in SyMenu. I was close to give up on SyMenu and only came back beacuse I couldn't find anything better. And I tried lots of garbage software for that.

Can you be more specific on what you mean by 'exit from SyMenu'? I can't seem to get it to stick.

Cannot drag files into app opened with SyMenu

I have an application called MP3tag. Normally I can drag files or folders into the opened window of this app. However when I open this app using SyMenu dragging doesn't work anymore. The cursor shows a forbidden symbol (circle with a line through it).

Any idea why this is?

I tried this but when I go back in the structure tab it's back to default.

Well, that makes SyMenu unusuable then.

All of the above is correct but when after that I go back in the structure tab it's back to default.

Is there any way to have a simple hotkey always work to see SyMenu's menu without having to run it in as admin?

What does that mean? "follow the Microsoft recommendation and work with a user with no privileges".

Changing the structure is not the problem. The problem is that your software changes back to the default once you go back into the menu.

So, I invested some time and came up with a workaround.

This involves running an autohotkey script that can be found here: https://www.autohotkey.com/board/topic/108434-run-ahk-as-admin-or-not-dilemma/

The script runs the executable 'unelevated' and this enables the drag & drop again that SyMenu disables when it is run as admin. You set SyMenu to run the script instead of the executable directly.

This workaround seems to function fine and fast. I still think the hotkey functionality of SyMenu should be changed to where it can always be called upon, regardless of what applications are opened, without it being run in Admin mode. To me this seems top of the line essential functionality for a menu that replaces the OS menu.

So, I have to change my reply here as it seems now that SyMenu has saved the changes I made to the structure and even keeps those change when I go back into the structure tab and make more changes. I do not know what changed between the last time I tried and this time.

Returning to your issue I don't understand why you need a script that allows you to execute something without elevation when you simply can execute SyMenu without admin privileges.

As we have established, that is not an option because your chosen hotkey system doesn't work all the time unless SyMenu is ran as admin.

Btw: I am specifically looking for something that replaces the awful Win start menu and that is portable itself so I don't have to rebuild the menu anytime I reinstall my OS.

So, I don't use a user account with privileges at all, just standard. I don't know why certain programs are preventing your hotkey system from working. You say it's because they are elevated but I don't do anything to cause that nor do I know how to find out if they are elevated and then how to change that.

Thank you.

So it turns out a lot of my running software is running elevated but I do not know why. Maybe it's because I have an Autohotkey script that runs several programs that I always want open at startup? I just checked and for instance if I kill Thunderbird and run it manually than it's not elevated. I have never given this any thought before.
