Excited to use SyMenu for all apps/utilities. Been setting it up for a few weeks now. Because I have so many programs, it's hard to locate many of them when I need them because I don't recall their name. That SyMenu searches in Description is great!
I'd like there to be another field entitled "Notes" for each program item: either a multi line text box (10-15 lines visible) and scrollable, or able to drag/resize the text box to show more lines (and still scrollable).
I've imported many descriptions into the program items (Reload Description button) and started to modify them to include tags I can search for, but decided: 1) I'd like to keep the program developer's description and have my notes/tags separate
2) Description, being a 1 line field, doesn't allow me to format notes like I want - e.g. a list of features that are important to me in columnar format instead of one long line that wraps in a tooltip
Would then like ability to search in Notes too and ability to configure that tooltip will also show Notes.
Great software - thanks! Sam |

Is there any way to extend the duration of the tooltip display?
I would like tooltip to stay displayed until I move the mouse pointer |

Thanks - making the description field more usable and larger will help. I want multiple lines which is a bit awkward as is: line feeds work, but don't display in the description field. To make a change, I need to cut/paste to text editor, make changes, cut paste back to description field.
>> After you load the built in description you can add your custom tag without any problem. True. My concern is regarding updates: I want to load the description from each update to see if any changes. This replaces my custom description (i.e. I need to manage it manually - either copy/paste, or don't save changes. Certainly manageable, but that was my primary reason: not mixing the developer's description with my own custom notes. |

Running SyItem in Elevated mode - Challenges
sffdb8
|
Hi folks - Does anyone know if there is a limitation that prevents us from configuring whether to run an item or not in elevated mode (instead of needing to select Action Modifier "Run Elevated" each time)? I can never recall which items need elevated privileges, so I end up launching the program and sometimes making some selections before I am then told it needs elevated privileges, and so I need to close and then run after selecting the "Run Elevated" Action Modifier; I would rather this is configured on an item by item basis.
Also, any reason why "Run Elevated" is not an available Action Modifier in the 'Configure Item' window? |

K thanks for taking the time to respond, and so quickly. Being new to SyMenu, I wasn't sure if I was merely missing something.
I'm pleased with SyMenu enough to be investing a lot of time migrating to it. Thanks for making SyMenu available.

>> IMHO what you need is a visit to the "what's new" program/web site section Agreed
>>What do you think? That sounds great to me. Personally, I would find it even nicer if the Description field box was multi-line (re: line terminator) with option to wrap (if a line is wider than the box) and resizable. |

Managing shortcuts in SyMenu.

Still a little buggy: ";" and double quotes in Description field seems to mess things up resulting in parsing errors, truncation, and columns out of alignment. e.g.
Description: START--->
FileMenu Tools customizes the context menu of Explorer, adding built-in utilities for file and folder operations. Users can add customized commands that run external applications, copy/move to a specific folder or delete specific file types; customize the "Send to..." submenu; and enable/disable the commands which are added by other applications to the context menu.
The built-in utilities allow the user to run a given program with arguments, copy/move to a folder, copy path, UNC path, Internet path, name or content to clipboard, view or change attributes, split/join a file, register/unregister a DLL, find and replace, advanced rename, synchronize two folders, delete locked files, create symbolic link, calculate and verify SHA/MD5 checksums, shred files, change folders icon, and many more. #Productivity#DesktopAccessories

SyMenu shortcuts don't work if active app Elevated

Wondering what I can do as a workaround without running SyMenu in elevated mode? I use AutoHotkey (AHK) and a less-than-elegant solution is to have my AHK script make a non-elevated app active before sending the SyMenu shortcut for Search.
Since SyMenu app doesn't behave as a typical window, I can't minimize/maximize/restore it. Is there another way to display SyMenu programatically e.g. using WinAPI ShowWindow? |

My apologies - thought I had responded to this...
Yes, you got the gist of my problem. Executing the already running SyMenu.exe again does work, but takes about 3 seconds on my system (I'm running on an SSD with 16GB RAM...). Also, I'm not sure there's a solution for the other SyMenu configured Hot Key (i.e. Shortcut for Search).
So to recap:
For users like me that are running SyMenu non-elevated, I'm not finding what-I-find-to-be a convenient solution to using the SyMenu Hot Keys when they are also running apps elevated.
If the active window is elevated, SyMenu doesn't provide a way to use the SyMenu Hot Keys; and the only option available is to e.g. pin SyMenu to the taskbar and re-launch SyMenu by clicking on the taskbar icon and wait a few seconds for the Main menu to appear before I can then press "S", "S", "Enter" to get to the search box.
Oddly, I created a windows shortcut to SyMenu.exe and setup a shortcut key, but that didn't work... although if it did, it's not much different than the taskbar icon approach.
If anyone has a solution (or if I'm missing something), please let me know, otherwise I'd like to propose this as a feature request. I seem to recall a floating icon when I installed this a long time ago. Decided I didn't like it, but maybe it's time to revisit what that offers.
My current solution is to define a hotkey in AutoHotkey that, when the active window is elevated, activates the Taskbar (which is non-elevated) and then sends the SyMenu Hot Keys. That displays the SyMenu search box immediately.
And again, thanks Gianluca for this terrific sofware!

Update cleared params?
sffdb8
|
I just updated UltraSearch in SyMenu's "Manage SPS Apps" and discovered that the "Program Arguments" in Item "Additional Params" tab are now empty for those items that have Item Path to ".\ProgramFiles\SPSSuite\SyMenuSuite\UltraSearch_(x64)_sps\UltraSearch.exe".
Not sure I can try to recreate since I don't think I can download prior versions of apps in SyMenu (i.e. UltraSearch), add params back again, and then update UltraSearch to see if it happens again.
Wondering if you can confirm: when SyMenu updates an app, are the (SyMenu) Items in the Item Manager also updated, and if so, which fields? |

Seems specific to vscode as "Run elevated" works fine on other items.
