You should give me some further information to allow me to help you.
The only thing I can suppose is that you have a USB drive really slow. In this case SyMenu is not unresponsive but has to wait the time for the I/O operations complete.

Snowman... you confused me smile smile smile
The multiple D&D will be available with the next version (6.03) that is in developing. In my previous message I promised the feature without pointing out the version number and this created the misunderstanding.

On the other side, you discover a bug in the current version (6.02) that can cause the D&D not work even with a single shorcut.

My idea is not to fix the current bug, because in this way I can directly release the most complete version with the multiple D&D.
You only need a bit more patience.

Feature Req: New "Action Modifier" = "Uninstall"

Hello guys.
Read here please to have a completely new point of view regarding a way to delete an item from the contextual menu https://www.ugmfree.it/Forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=631&lastpage=1#post2127
My sensation toward this solution is very positive because it is consistant and opens new possibilities to expand the features directly available in the context menu.

SyContainers are never final neither executable. The only way to make a SyContainer final is to leave it empty but again it is not executable the same because an empty SyContainer is meaningless. For this reason, even today, you can't apply an action modifier to a SyContainer.

Link to folders are final when you flag them as "Show as a link" and, in fact, you can execute them and the action modifiers works. Without the flag Link to folders are not final and consequentially not executable.

In both cases the edw solution suits perfectly. That's the reason for which I like the idea so much, it's so consistent smile

The right mouse button has been implemented only for this particular scenario: I forget to set the right action modifier but I'm already focused on a sub sub sub menu. If I have to go back to action modifiers to set the desired one, my sub sub sub menu closes. It's very annoying so I implemented the right click.
But now the right click can be used to open the additional drop down with the actions for the item, because you always need the left click available for direct execution.
So the right click as an action modifier changer becomes useless.
If you use the keyboard I will reserve the right cursor key to open the drop down for the final item. Today the right cursor key on a final item causes the entire context menu closing (not so good....).

And again we have a full consistency and again I'm so happy smile smile smile

Try again. There are no problem with those SPS.
Are you sure your firewall/proxy/AV allow you to navigate to the programs repository web sites?
For example CamStudio is downloaded from http://downloads.sourceforge.net/portableapps/CamStudioPortable_2.7.2_English.paf.exe
Are you able to download the package from that URL with your browser?

Workaround for an offline installation:
- go to Get new apps
- select the program you need to install
- download the package clicking the little green arrow in the bottom box
- save the package somewhere in your PC
- when finished, right click on the item you need (from the grid)
- choose Add from local package or Update from local package if you are updating the program
- select the package previously downloaded.

And please report for other users benefit.

New SyMenu version 6.03

And finally the long waited 6.03 is out.

The more trustworthy users already know what this version brings to their computers, but, for the careless ones, this is a small summary:
  • Drag and drop from FS now works with more than one element at the same time
  • Batch import analyzes the shortcuts files too (.lnk files)
  • Fix - quit command line didn't work if there was no previous instance running
I suspect that we still have some bugs with the drag and drop but the most has been done.
For further information I'm here for you.

They are all from SourceForge and SourceForge today has some problems.
Try to download something directly, I fear you'll get issues the same.
Probably they are changing something.
And surely it's not related to the new SyMenu version.

Problem confirmed.
This is the message SyMenu is downloading from SourceForge instead of the program packages:

We're sorry -- the Sourceforge site is currently in Disaster Recovery mode, and currently requires the use of javascript to function. Please check back later.

A different problem seems to affect HandBrake. The x86 version is suddently disappeared from their web site. I disabled it.
Stella works well. Retry please.
WordWeb is no longer available from their web site, because they moved the package away. I've just alerted the SPS editor to find another source.

Feature request – Create shortcuts of all apps

Gianluca

Welcome to the forum CriticalCid.

Nice idea. I could extend the concept already adopted for the temporary desktop shortcut and experiment a bit with the Start menu. It's feasible but the question is: why do you need to use the Start menu if you have SyMenu available? What is the lacking feature that makes you prefer the Windows native one?
I'm asking to understand your reasons, it's not a criticism.

The comment field is not filled with a launch parameter but with a GUID that uniquely identify the owner SyMenu version.
It's a needed value to allow the cleaning up of the created shortcuts when SyMenu quits.
Imagine a scenario where more than one SyMenu version create desktop shortcuts. When one of the version quits, it need a way to recognize its own shortcuts to delete them all.
The same happens when SyMenu crashes and can't clean up. The next time it runs, it doesn't create duplicate shortcuts because it recognizes its previously creates ones and when it closes regularly, it can remove the shortcuts.
Unfortunately the Windows .lnk file is not extensible otherwise I could have created a custom field for this value.

Dear redleg,

The sources from where SyMenu downloads its packages are usually the same programs author web sites. So it's quite normal that some of them could be temporary unavailable.
And it's exactly the case for these programs:
Eric'sMovieDataBase
HWiNFO 5.74
Midi Monitor
mp3DirectCut
Stella

For the other programs you reported instead, we have some problems.
BVD Notepad - I reported to the author because the package has disappeared from his web site too
Cmail (no SSL) - Wrong download URL. I've reported to its SPS editor. I'm not the only one to handle all the programs in the SyMenu suite so they should be reported to the right person. You have a link for each of them (Contact reviewer) directly inside SyMenu.
Junkware Removal Tool - I've removed it from the suite because the program has been discontinued by its author
Pristy Tools - Reported to its SPS editor
Rainpad - Reported to its SPS editor
RBTray - Fixed with a change in the download URL
recALL - I have to further investigate for a possibly virus infection
SSD Tweaker - There is a bug that I can fix only with the next SyMenu version. Sorry for this.

Thank you for your report.

Copy error in SPS programswith SyMenu version 6.03

We have several SPS programs that are impossible to install because of a "copy error" during the installation/update phase.
For once is not a SyMenu problem smile but a 7zip one.

This is a simple workaround to solve the problem:
- go to this URL https://www.7-zip.org/download.html
- download 7Zip 16.04 (2016-10-04) version .exe 32-bit x86
- extract all the files in a temporary folder
- with SyMenu closed, replace the two files 7z.dll, 7z.exe in the SyMenu main folder with the corresponding from the 7Zip 16.04 version.

Solved!

Well you are right. I've checked only the download URLs but all the programs returning a copy error, have the same problem as SSD Tweaker.
Since this problem is more widespread than I thought, I created a new thread to workaround the problem. You can find it here: https://www.ugmfree.it/Forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=638
Please report if the workaround solves the issue.

Usually a broken SPS must be reported to its own editor, in this case you massively test the entire suite so it is correct to post the issues here because it's easier for us to manage the programs in batch.

Thank you again for your collaboration.

New SyMenu beta version 6.04

Gianluca
Gianluca

Welcome to the new SyMenu beta version.

With this version I'm introducing the extended menu.

The extended menu works this way.
When you are navigating in the SyMenu main context menu and you reach a final item, for example a program, you will see a little transparent arrow appearing on the right of the selected area.
It's very similar to the one we are used to see on a regular dropdown menu even if it doesn't open automatically.
If you want to open the mysterious dropdown, you have to right click the item or, if you are using the keyboard, you have to press the right cursor key.

When the extended dropdown opens, you'll find all the available action modifiers for the item plus a delete command. I don't have to explain you what the action modifiers are but the delete command is particular because it allows you to physically delete an item if it's one of the SPS'. Yes, with this new feature, you can change the contextual menu without opening the configuration form or the SPS Manager form.

We already have the action modifiers so why am I so enthusiast about a simple delete command?
The real new feature is the extended menu because it will open tons of new possibility. We finally have a contextual menu on a single item the we can fill with several functions and commands.

At the moment the menu is quite limited because the delete command is fully working only for the SPS items but, guys, I'm waiting for suggestions to improve the new tool.

And BTW thanks to edw for his suggestion. (https://www.ugmfree.it/Forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=631)

Here you can find the new beta version.

Path to SyMenu Apps?

Gianluca
Gianluca

Probably because it's out of its purpose.

SyMenu comes in help during its own start and its own close (autoexec on start and on close) but there is nothing that could be launched before the launch of an application and after the application close.
Using this feature, one solution is to create a single batch/cmd file that is in charge to create all the registry keys for all the programs and another one to delete them all. You can link the first to the autoexec on start the latter to the autoexec on close.
IMHO is not so nice to write so much data on the registry, even if this data is temporary, because you don't really need them all, but you need only those one related to the program you will launch.

Another solution is to force a bit the system using some sort of launcher (bat, cmd) for every app, each of them creates the registry keys before launching their own app.
As well as the previous example these batch files can be instructed through a command line parameter (.\) to create the registry keys related to current program path because SyMenu translates any command argument representing a relative path with the real path.
But then you have the problem to clean up all the mess.

Your real solution is to use same sort of portabilizer system like paf, LiberKey, yap... you have literally tons of them. These system aim to create a launcher that allows you to create registry keys, folders, files, then to launch the program and monitor it. When the program closes the launcher cleans up all the previous modification, plus any other track the program created by itself.
These are the products you really need. SyMenu is simply a launcher not a portabilizer tool.
