¿New 'Script After Install' command: "RunFile"?

I agree the command would open a lot of possibility and I agree that it opens security breaches in the SPS scripting engine, but, as we already checked, the breaches are already opened.
You are right we need to trust che editors, as we trust the program authors, so any command will be used for the best.
So I agree with the RunFile command. But I'm very interested in knowing the other opinions too.

newest Version Gesture

Hi JRO.

A small delay is quite normal when an application manages a gesture, because it has to process a click along with a movement. The delay is needed to detect the two different events as one.

But I'm speaking about a 200-300 milliseconds delay. This kind of delay is perceivable but not too annoying. So it's not normal a 3 secs or longer delay.

I haven't introduced anything new with the gesture system in the 6.x versions so the behavior you are describing is really strange and difficult to debug. I reproduced your scenario but my version is responding with the expected time.

Can you copy your SyMenu to another PC (every elements with the exception of the ProgramFiles folder which I imagine could be huge) and test it over there please?
I suspect the problem could be in some settings of your OS.

What?!?!? The WinContig icon disappeared and then the whole application crashed...
It really seems a memory overflow but .NET is not subjected to this kind of problem, unless the developer made a sever error... But in this case the problem will be more and more common.
Have you already tried the whiggs solution?

Ok guys.
Thanks to the tosiabunio report I discover a GDI leak in SyMenu. This is the situation just after the crash.

SyMenu reaches the GDI limit per process (10.000) and Windows refuses to grant it more. SyMenu, hurted, can only crash.

The next version (6.01) will solve this issue but in the meanwhile I found a workaround for any of you in this situation:
- go to the program Options
- go to the tab Structure
- add to the menu structure, left hand side, the My Computer element. You can put it wherever you want.
- save the new structure and the leak disappears.

How do you know you are in this situation?
Simply monitor the process with the Windows Task Manager or with Process Explorer by Sysinternals and check the GDI objects just before the crash.

The MagnusT issue is different from tosiabunio's one and I'm on it. Stay tuned.

Hi guys.
The new beta version is here.

These are the new features:
  • The SPS installation process has been lightened
  • Every item launched through SyMenu is managed first by the extension manager
  • The label color becomes customizable in the SyMenu themes
  • Bug fix. I fixed all the problem due to the annoying GDI leak (https://www.ugmfree.it/Forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=494#post1897)

Hope you will enjoy it.

Hi.
Someone reported that this beta version is detected as a false positive from Windows Defender... again... as in the 2016...
This is the analysis from VirusTotal https://www.virustotal.com/#/url/38d3ca821c25857c66304b0ea6df0ce15e885cd4d4c888f3dede3c18ab3df8ec/detection which definitely asserts that SyMenu is a good guy.
If someone reports the false positive to MS, I'll be grateful.

- Cubic Explorer
has been removed. The program is no longer supported by its author.

- DevProject Manager
- OW Shredder
- Uninstall Cleaner
are now working. Refresh your definitions and try to install them again.

- Caustic
- HandBrake
- InkScape
need a SyMenu new release. In a few days you'll have another beta version where these programs will work. Then I'll release the major version. So please be patient.

I've just alerted the editors for:
- Easy Service Optimizer
- WordWeb
- FreeArc
- Windows Privacy Tweaker
- Ultimate Windows Tweaker
- Ultimate Windows Tweaker for Windows 8

Regarding:
- Stella
- XnSketch
- XnRetro

the error is caused by a slow reply from the hosting web site. Try again and eventually again. They'll be downloaded before or after.

Thank you for your report

Hi guys.
...and the new version is finally here.

If you read the beta version announcement, you already know what are the new features:
  • The SPS installation process has been lightened
  • Every item launched through SyMenu is managed first by the extension manager
  • The label color becomes customizable in the SyMenu themes
  • Bug fix. I fixed all the problem due to the annoying GDI leak (https://www.ugmfree.it/Forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=494#post1897)
An important thing I want to make clear here, is the SyMenu reliability.
Before every release I check the two SyMenu packages (zip and exe) with VirusTotal.com.
My intention is to release every version without being recognize as a threat by the main antivirus software.

This version was found perfectly clean but some users start to report issues with an AV not implemented by VirusTotal (Windows Defender).
If you are in this situation, please report the false positive to your AV producer and not to me. In this way you'll help SyMenu and all the other users.

Thank you.

IMHO it's a typical Windows Defender behavior.
Check if it is active and just in case if it quarantined SyMenu.

Hotkeys not working correctly

Gianluca

You are right. SyMenu is not aggressive in managing its shortcuts/hotkeys.
What you are reporting is only one of the weakness of this feature in SyMenu.
Another one is that SyMenu, running in normal mode, is not able to steal a shortcut to a program that is running in elevate mode.

I perfectly know that but, since rewriting the entire hooking system is an huge task, it's not a priority in this moment sorry. We are not a large team here smile

My advise: use uncommon key combinations for your programs or use another program more aggressive with the keyboard shortcut, such as Clavier+ that is available in the SyMenu suite.

Why am I using the shortcut term instead of hotkey?
Because the shortcuts in SyMenu were introduced as accelerators available in the contextual menu. Later I extended this feature to allow its use system wide but the name remained.

All the new SPS are now published.

@KoolPal: I would have preferred you to open a new thread because this one was speaking about PortableApps and not about new apps in general.
Anyway thank you for suggestion.

Don't worry it's not a real problem.
The right categorization is intended to ease the finding of the messages but, since VVV_Easy_Symenu already found and solved it, we don't need to give it more emphasis.

Go to the configuration for the program SyItem inside SyMenu, click on the Advanced tab, check Enable advanced parameters, inside the box Environment Variables add this text:
APPDATA=.
Save the new configuration.
Delete the db from the C:\Users... path and try to run the program again and check where the db is created now.

Update URL for Symenu Suite items

Gianluca
Gianluca

Sure I can.

Go to Get new apps, then select the program you are interesting in, and then right click on the little button with the green arrow you find under the release information. The download url will be copied to your clipboard. If you left click it the browser will pop up automatically with the download URL opened.

Warning!
If you download the program regularly with your browser but not with SyMenu there could be other problems unrelated to your network setting.
In these cases I have some workarounds for you.

1) Install the .NET framework 4.0 or higher.
SyMenu is able to run on every .NET framework starting from 2.0, but if you have the latest one installed, SyMenu is happier and it's able to make some further magics. For example downloading programs from websites that only implement TLS 1.2.

2) Try more than one time.
Some websites could very slow or heavily loaded and SyMenu is not a patient guy. If a website takes too long to reply, he gets tired and gives up. Well it's call timeout in technical words. If you try to download the program again and again maybe you catch a faster channel and get your program.

3) Download the program by hand with your browser and update/install it on SyMenu through the local package option.
It's the very last chance to get the program but usually it's the decisive one.

BTW I checked the UltraVNC website and they simply have some problems with the SSL certificates. You can check it with your browser too.
Anyway you can download the package from the http instead of the https.
I'm alerting the SPS editor for UltraVNC suggesting to change the protocol for a while.

Command line parameter to exit SyMenu

Gianluca

Hello Peter.
My ambition is that SyMenu could be in charge for starting and quitting any other application through its Autoexec on start and on close features, so my advise is to throw away your two scripts and use SyMenu instead.

But I respect your need and you'll find a new command line with the next version (-quit) that'll do exactly what you need.

But please give a chance to the Autoexec too
