Wow VVV_Easy_Symenu.
It's a fantastic solution and it works.

If you want, and above all if you have further time to dedicate to this script, I can give you some hints to improve the user experience.

But there is one important thing you should anyhow change. I have some doubts about the backup folder you choose.
The _OrphanIcons folder is inside the SPS suite folder and it seems that the trashed icons are only the suite's ones.
You could create your trash folder directly under the SyMenu root calling it IconsTrashed to leave it near the original Icons folder. It become easier to remember where the trashed icons are and eventually to restore some of them.

Thank you very much for another useful piece of software smile

Yes. I had the same problem when using PAT as a plugin.
Instead the folder resolution works when I use it in stand alone mode.

Go to the SPS Manager (Get new apps or "Nuove app" in Italian) and press the button to update the app definition located on the top - right of the form.
Repeat the operation for all the three app suites available.

You are right.
I've just updated the RIOT definition.
Update the SyMenu suite definitions and you will get the new RIOT version available in SyMenu.

Yes a human intervention is required. Me and other editors are scanning the web daily to find if new versions are available. Sometimes our scanning rules are not perfect so a major version, like the RIOT one, can be ignore. So thank you for your report, I changed my scanning rule so it should be always updated from now on.

If you are interested in becoming an editor for the SyMenu suite you can read these URLs and eventually send me private message for further details:
http://www.ugmfree.it/SyMenuSPSBuilder.aspx (SPS Builder is the tool to build the program definitions)
http://www.ugmfree.it/Forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=450 (PAT is the tool to scan the web for new program versions)

Regarding multiple versions the RIOT case is quite unique. If I'm not wrong we have only another program available in multiple flavors (DesktopOK x86, x64 and Unicode x86).
Since this program is under my control I can assure you that is a pain to maintain the same software three times..... I give it up willingly.

Well this is a question to aks to Pazera author. SyMenu doesn't add any strange operation to a zip package if not the unpacking.
I'm using Defender too and I have the same problem.

The alert for a clean update will become annoying because having a clean update along with the need to maintain files is rare. I could think about a system to maintain some files in case of a clean update (scripting). So you have not to alert the users.

My two cents on the topic of the same SPS opened more than once by the SPS Builder.

It's not on PAT but it's on the SPS Builder.
PAT could track any SPS opened from inside itself but the problem here is that SPS Builder is a completely separate software and it could be opened by the user in a separate context. So PAT can't have a complete view of all the SPS currently opened in several SPS Builder instances.

IMHO the utility to have multiple SPS Builder instances at the same time is terrific. When I update my suite I usually open three SPS Builder and while one is downloading and installing a program, I work with another instance. Or when I have to test a x86 and x64 versions I work with both, while the third instance is working on something else. I agree when VVV_Easy_Symenu tells that SPS is a technology for advanced users only, anyway, implementing a feature that checks any other SPS Builder instance and alerts if the same SPS is opened somewhere else is possible and I will do at sometimes.

I see another problem instead.
PAT works off line reading the SyMenu Suite _Cache folder, while the most correct way to work would be reading the SPS online. But UGM for first is not ready for this kind of interaction.
So my request is that when PAT opens you could check the _Cache content and if the marker file is older than one hour, alert the user to update it.
It helps a lot to maintain the off line files aligned with the online ones.
You could also force a refresh from PAT but it's a bit more tricky.

@VVV_Easy_Symenu

I have an idea.
Since your application is really usefull why don't you publish it in the SyMenu Suite?

You're already publishing the SyMenu Published App Track. You could call this one "SyMenu Orphan Icons cleaner" or something similar.
In this way your application will have a greater audience because this forum is attended only from a minor part of the SyMenu user base. Otherwise than the PAT this application is really useful for any SyMenu user.

Nope. I should refresh it but the initial purpose was to include the Windows apps directly inside SyMenu and not to add them through a plugin. Well it's an entire new world to explore but has a very low priority for now.

VVV_Easy_Symenu already puts the download link on the first post of this thread.

Anyway as a rule of thumb, when you have any kind of problem with the SPS Manager built in download feature, you already have the download url available clicking the little green arrow in the bottom left corner of the form.

Do you want to know my idea of reorganization for the SPS Manager?
Have a look here https://play.google.com/store/apps wink

Regarding the other topic, the way I use to force the user to update his SPS collection seems a bit awkward but the reason is simple: it's not the final one.
I'm gradually approaching to the final way that will be the automatic and silent update for definitions.

When I reach that level you can't choose if you want to check for definitions or not but if you want to use the SPS system or not. In the same way you won't need to manually check for definition because the system does it in your place.

Why is the checking so important?
The reason is simple. Often when an SPS goes outdated it becomes not usable and can produce errors in particular if the source url changes or if it contains scripts or if the new package is available from the old url. These are the more frequent cases but there are others too. So if you want to use SPS, it has to be updated.
Naturally I will implement a system similar to Windows 10 where you can define metered connections even if the definitions download is very light (1,5MB).

Let's speak about the current situation.
Currently you receive an alert if your suite definitions are older than 10 days for SyMenu suite and 30 days for the other two.
Don't tell me that an alert every 10 days is annoying please. Or better every 30 days.
And starting from the next version (or the current beta) you can deactivate the alerts for the suites you aren't interested with.
So all the checking system should start to be sustainable.

The zipped cache file is not necessary to know what's is already added. It helps understanding what programs are currently outdated. Your idea could be useful but, naturally I should implement it as an option: "Don't you want to be notified? Click here." and I simply delete the zipped file.
Indeed it's exactly what is happening when you click on the heart (breaking it...). The zipped file is deleted.
Your suggested option spares you a click every 10 days and two clicks every 30 days... lazy man smile
Well I confirm it's perfectly viable but I have to evaluate it considering the final scenario when the update is automatic. I need to study it.

Don't worry I already fixed the bug in a new beta I will release within some days.
The problem is not the update itself but the update of a program linked to more than one item in SyMenu.
Probably your Macrorit and CCleaner are in this situation.

Automatic configuration backup when i leave Symenu

Even if you don't touch the program options, SyMenu changes the Config\SyMenuConfig.zip file the same because it needs to store the last position and size for its various components. This is the reason for the saving during closing time.

SyMenu is not able to manage this mixed requirements. You need to have a part of the program configuration enabled for writing (the items part) and the other in read only mode for certain users and fully changeable for one other.

My suggestion: try using the Windows security. As I told you the file to protect is Config\SyMenuConfig.zip. Disable the write permission for the other two admins. The program should not complain and, just in case, I can fix the behavior.

Let me know if this solution is suitable for you.

You should use the report available in Configuration - Advanced - Options- tab System - button Full list but unfortunately I've just discovered that the resulting csv it's messed up.
Well I really hate csv...

Anyway I promise you that with the next version it will work again.
In that report you will find every shortcut configured with your items.
