Ok. You probably have a problem caused by your OS or your .NET installation because when you add a container you already should see a yellow folder and instead you see nothing. Can you try to copy the entire folder containing you SyMenu to another PC and try to execute it from there? If you see your yellow and colored folders that means that surely something is wrong in your machine. |

Ok got it. I discover that the problem is a bug that affect Windows XP's visual style in certain circumstances. I unintentionally introduced exactly those circumstances with the SyMenu version 3.0. Sorry!
I can easily workaround the XP bug but you have to wait for the next version that is not so close. I think I will release it in January or February.
Anyway I have an important advise for you and for all users that are still using XP system: please install the .NET framework 4.0 (or 4.5.1) in your machines. SyMenu takes great advantage from that in terms of execution speed. |

Q-Dir. I've already tried to implement Q-Dir in my Open Folder plugin (http://www.ugmfree.it/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=85) but it seems to me that Q-Dir doesn't support the command line needs to open a folder inside it. Maybe I'm wrong and if someone could help me to find out the right command line I could include it easily.
Open links with different browsers than the default one. Well it become pretty easy if you invert the terms of the problem. The right question should be how can I launch a certain browser independently from the system default with a link already opened? For IE the solution is: - create a program item in SyMenu instead of a web url one - in the Path textbox insert this one: %ProgramFiles%\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe - in the Program arguments textbox insert your url. For example: www.google.com Done. |

Sure. In fact I told "unless you uncheck a certain option (Delete downloaded installation files)". In that case wscc works as a normal offline launcher. My consideration was only that the cloud approach is really interesting |

Relative Paths?
GianlucaAdministrator
|
It is a behaviour more related to Windows than to SyMenu. I didn't know that Win8 repairs the broken links automatically and I don't know how to solve the problem with a Windows shortcut. I think that the Windows shortcuts don't support relative path.
Anyway I had the same problem as yours and the solution I personally adopted for my flash drive, raw and old school but working, is to create a simple .bat file in the root containing this command:
start SyMenu\SyMenu.Admin.exe
In your case naturally change the command with:
start F_Apps\System\File_Sys\SyMenu\SyMenu.exe
If you don't like the bat files you can use a cmd file (same syntax) or better a little exe file with whom you can change the icon too.
Let me know if the solution works or if someone has a better idea. |

You are right. This is the problem of the already packed suites. I think that the best solution to this problem is to offer a huge choice but to leave the user the chance to install only the tools he considers useful enough.
In other words the solution is to offer a feature that guide the user like a smartphone app store.
Well since it's quite the right time I can informally announce here that the project I followed in this last months is exactly the one I described here: a sort of app store for SyMenu In the next weeks I will open a new forum on this topic but if anyone wants to start helping in build the SyMenu suite immediately let me know with a private message or a mail. Enable your favorite program for the suite it's a really easy process and takes 5 to 10 minutes. Let me know. |

Well the hotkey bug is definitely solved.
Maybe you have another problem. It could be caused by a misconfiguration (have you enable the shortcut? Check it in Configuration - Advanced - Options - Tab Hot keys) or a concurrent program that steal the shortcut to SyMenu (try to change the default one with a custom one). |

Are you really sure you are working with the 3.04 version? Go to About SyMenu and read the version there. I'm asking for that because what you describe is exactly the bug I solved with this last version and since this release, since October, no one reported the bug again.
BTW I have four different x64 systems with Windows 8 and 8.1 and the problem is gone with 3.04 in all of them. A workaround for the old bug was to do what you describe or a faster one is to go to Tools menu and click reload. |

Well this bug is really interesting... it's a sort of zombie bug that revives from its ashes Anyway since I can't reproduce the problem it is very difficult for me to solve it but maybe your attemps will be useful to make me understand. You should try all the possible combinations: change PC, execute in higher privileges (run SyMenu.Admin.exe instead of SyMenu.exe), run SyMenu from different unit (both HD and removable ones), make the SyMenu Start menu button appears, execute the program and don't touch it for 30 seconds, change the default shortcuts, enable the gesture, execute SyMenu twice (the second execution pops up the first instance), disable the antivirus software, disable the function that checks online for new version... well whatever you can think.
If you could find a recurrence or a path in which the bug doesn't appear maybe we have hope to kill it again. |

Thanks to hamasaki I discover that the old shortcut bug has not completely disappeared. It sometimes happens if you disable the Start menu button replacer. Well the next version is not so close and so I can solve the bug and release it with the new terrific 4.00. Stay tuned!!! |

The SyMenu Portable Suite
GianlucaAdministrator
|
Dear SyMenu users.
I open this new forum to start creating a SyMenu program suite. It is a huge task but with a little help from everyone it will become possible.
The key to create the SyMenu program suite is SPS. SPS is a documenting format file thought to add a portable program to the SyMenu suite easily and quickly. I skip all the technical details and reach immediately the meaning of that with a simple example.
Do you want that your favourite portable program is included into SyMenu suite? 1) Create the SPS file for the program. 2) Send the SPS file to UGMFree.
Stop, end, finish, termination, close. You don't need an hosting service, you don't need a web site, you don't have to create an installer package, you don't have to do any other activity accomplishable only by a trained programmer.
The spontaneous question now is "how the hell can I create an SPS file for a portable program?". Create a profile in this forum if you haven't one yet. Download SPS Builder from here http://www.ugmfree.it/SyMenuSPSBuilder.aspx or directly from SyMenu, execute it and fill the textboxes in the main form. When you finish press the button "Save in UGM". Your SPS will be send to UGMFree automatically. You even have a tools to validate your entries before creating the SPS to avoid formal errors. If you have difficulty to understand what to enter in the form fields, load into the SPS Builder one of the SPS file already available in SyMenu to better understand the meaning of the various fields.
SyMenu starting from version 4.00, will offer its suite like a smartphone app store does: go to Tools - Get new apps from the contextual menu, choose a program from a list, click to add and execute it. No need to configure programs, no need to download the entire suite, no need to manually update the program you add. Terrific!
Here you can find the complete list of the program already included in the SyMenu SPS suite http://www.ugmfree.it/SyMenuSuiteSPS.aspx edited by Gianluca on 18/02/2016 |

It could happen if the unit where SyMenu has started has been removed and eventually reconnected. Even if SyMenu is working from an internal disk could suffer when Windows switch off the HD due to inactivity and reconnect it when you call SyMenu.
To check my assumption try to move SyMenu in the HD where you have your OS (usually C and use it from there for a while. If the bug doesn't appear using SyMenu normally (with the 3/4 hrs pause stoo) the reason is what I described above. |

The SyMenu Portable Suite
GianlucaAdministrator

1) NirSoft My expectation is that someone takes care of this suite and enable it for the new SPS format. In other words I need an editor for it. My current solution to publish the entire NirSoft suite as an independent package is not good enough because it can work only for the new users. On the contrary the users who already have configured their SyMenu, can't use the entire package but have to link any single program by hand. Not so good. If NirSoft will be published under SPS I can include it in SyMenu and the configuration will become more flexible thanks to the new feature.
2) PortableApps The SyMenu support for PortableApps suite is offered through the PAF plugin. I developed a plugin and not a built in feature because the PAF support represented an intermediate step to the full support to every portable application that will be reached through the SPS format starting from SyMenu 4.00 version. So what will be the destiny of the PAF plugin? I don't know yet. My options are: leave all as it is today or incorporate the support for the PAF programs inside the more powerful SPS standard. In any case I won't spend any further hours in developing anything for the PAF standard.
3) Sysinternals Good news: the way SPS works is compatible with the strict license of Sysinternals suite (essentially SPS allows the donwload from the author web site that is the most difficult license term to reach for Sysinternals programs). In the next days I'll include in the SPS program list already available in this forum Sysinternal ProcessExplorer and ProcessMonitor. What does that mean? That from the 4.00 you'll find these two programs available in your SyMenu from the new SPS manager feature. As for NirSoft suite in case of anyone would become the SPS Sysinternals editor I can create a particular suite container for the entire collection of program instead of including some of them inside the all purpose SyMenu native suite.
Last thing: the link to manual. You are completely right. |
