Mouse Wheel Scroll for Menus
Daniel
|
I just discovered SyMenu and it is amazingly powerful. I am already replacing my prior apps suites (Portable Apps and LiberKey) with this one.
The only issue I have with it is that I am not able to scroll the long lists of programs in SyMenu's sub-menus (for containers) using the mouse wheel (or even the page up/down or cursor arrow keys)... I must click on the down or up arrows in the menu frame to scroll (while Portable Apps and LiberKey menus allow for wheel scrolling: this is the one advantage they have).
Have I missed something? I did read the manual and could only find a horizontal scrolling option (for long descriptions)... nothing on vertical scrolling. Is there any way to allow for wheel scrolling through these context menus? It really is quite cumbersome having to click and hold on the arrows in the list box to navigate long lists of programs.
That said, a huge thank you to Gianluca for this extremely well thought out and highly functional utility. Well done! |

I did think about categorization, but I like to keep the NirSoft and SysInternals suites in containers without sub-containers (in fact, I found your menu system when I went to download the NirSoft suite)... too many hierarchies makes it difficult for me to locate apps, and while the Search function in SyMenu is phenomenal, most times I prefer to browse through the list. Hopefully, enabling the scroll wheel will not be a difficult mod. I do believe others would make use of it as well.
Thanks again for a great utility. You've clearly put a lot of time into this. |

FreeFileSync

Surprised that FreeFileSync is not already included in the list of SyMenu Suite apps. I did read the post on issues running this through SyMenu, but the workaround appears to be simple enough. I've come to rely on this utility as the best sync application out there. I will integrate my portable copy from Portable Apps into my SyMenu, but wanted to see if there was a reason why it isn't included in the list of SyMenu program suite apps. |

Another area where scrolling would come in handy is in the confirmation prompts--for instance, when removing several apps: currently, if the prompt runs off the bottom of the screen (because listing too many apps to fit), there is no way to see the bottom part of the window to click on Okay or Cancel, nor any way to scroll down to that area of the window. |

FFS is not the best synch software. I strongly prefer the more flexible approach of Total Commander or Unreal Commander that is already included in the SyMenu Suite.
Good to know, thanks! I am not finding Total Commander in the list of apps in the SyMenu Suite. Has it been removed? edited by Daniel on 23/11/2016 |

Adding PortableApps.com Menu to SyMenu

I've added the PA.c Menu to SyMenu as it's easier to use and contains all the apps distributed by PA.com. Rather than using the outdated SyMenu .paf Plugin. Here's how I did it:
1. First you need to download the PortableAppsMenu: http://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/PortableApps.com%20Platform/PortableApps.com_Platform_Setup_12.1.paf.exe/download
2. Next, Install it wherever is convenient for you. I already had it installed in E:/MyApps/Start.exe and then I moved it from here to E:/SyMenu/ProgramFiles/SPSSuite/PA.c/Start.exe
3. Once you've installed the menu here, or to your chosen location, you need to open the PAMenu and then open the Options. Click the Advanced tab on the Options window and check the box(es) to auto check for updates. All other settings are optional and really relevant if using the PAMenu seperately from SYMenu. I simply use it as an auto updater and have added the PA.c apps to SyMenu so all apps are available in one place.
4. Now add your apps to the PAMenu. edited by sl23 on 20/09/2015
Helpful, but ideally the portable apps programs would be integrated fully into the SyMenu SPSSuite using the SPS Builder application. Depends on how many PA apps one has, of course. Most (but not all) of these are already available in SPS format. It's definitely frustrating juggling multiple portable apps interfaces; the only reason I've done so is due to availability on some platforms and not others (and I'm not technical enough to understand the differences). AutoHotKey is available on LiberKey, for instance, but not on PortableApps or SyMenu (which has the AHK compiler, but not the program itself). I may need to take an afternoon to delve into the SPS Builder to learn how to properly integrate my few stray apps into SPSSuite so I can limit myself to one menu system. edited by Daniel on 23/11/2016 |

In this case I strongly hope that your efforts will be shared among all the SyMenu user. You only have to upload the SPS after creating it.
Will do!
The challenge will be finding the time. I can already feel an addictive pull toward playing with SyMenu though.... My boss may not appreciate this. |
