Hello,

I'm using the portable version of SyMenu v7.00.8038 installed on a separate partition:

p:\PApps\SyMenuPortable\

When I shutdown my computer, SyMenu looses it configuration file:

p:\PApps\SyMenuPortable\Config\SyMenuConfig.zip

And then upon starting up it goes over the "SyMenu First configuration" cycle (see attached screenshot)

I'm running Windows 10 Enterprise (21H2)

Is this a know issue?

Thank you

Fortunately it isn't.
What does "SyMenu loses its configuration file" mean?
Does the file exist after the SyMenu closing?
If it doesn't exist you have a permission problem on that folder. Release the Windows permissions on the Config folder, try again and please report the outcome.

Hello,

Right-click on SyMenu tray icon and choose Exit the file p:\PApps\SyMenuPortable\Config\SyMenuConfig.zip is there. SyMenu restarts normally.

Shutdown computer. SyMenu upon restart displays the "SyMenu First configuration" dialog box. Exiting this dialog and checking the file p:\PApps\SyMenuPortable\Config\SyMenuConfig.zip is missing.

One question: How do I "Release the Windows permissions on the Config folder"?

Thank you

Well... if this is the situation it's totally out of the SyMenu scope. If the file exists after SyMenu closes, the following file disappearance is something probably tied to Windows and I don't know what it could cause this, sorry.
BTW does the file exist after the Windows restart and before the SyMenu run?

P.S. I wrote "Release" but I wanted to write "Relax". There is a gold rule in this case: set the permissions to Everyone - Full control smile! If this works, then you can calibrate the permissions to a more restricted setting.

It took me some time to get back as I wanted to test a few things.

Unfortunately, I didn't come to a safe conclusion, other than after a Windows shutdown or restart the config file (p:\PApps\SyMenuPortable\Config\SyMenuConfig.zip in my case) gets lost.

I relaxed permissions to Config folder to Everyone having full control with no luck.

I disabled SyMenu starting with Windows and indeed observed that SyMenuConfig.zip is not there.

Is it possible that you AV software is killing the file? It would be strange because it's a zipped xml file and I never know about an antivirus that bullies a poor text file but just in case try to examine the AV log.

I checked my AV software (Sophos Antivirus) log for notifications and also its quarantine and found nothing related to SyMenuConfig.zip. Sophos Antivirus does not complain when I copy the backed up SyMenuConfig.zip to p:\PApps\SyMenuPortable\Config\. It weird that the file gets lost after a Windows restart or shutdown.
