When adding a Label the menu becomes wider than the longest named SyItem. Not sure if it's a standard length or relative to the longest name. Probably the former. But would be grateful for a fix please 
I decided to use a second separator anyway, so not an issue now, but I don't understand why a blank label has a set width? Is there a reason for it?

No reasons naturally.
It's probably a bug but it's not a bug as our usual ones... usually in SyMenu we have bugs that threaten the destruction of the space-time continuum 
This one is not so serious so in the meanwhile use the separators.
