Not yet sorry.
Is the message so disturbing for you? I searched a way not so invasive to give this information but I can think something else if it is annoying

No, not that annoying, I just assumed there would be a "tick box" to choose to look for new definitions on "boot up"

I assume this is a new feature added?

Yes but don't expect it so soon.
Today the most important thing is that people maintain updated their app definitions.

Tis a little irritating, mainly cos I have to click to close it.

Just wondering, do you plan on using the PAT plugin to check for updates then alert user there are some available, or will it optionally be fully automated? Personally I'd prefer silent updates as the PA.com menu does. It opens a window to alert you then just click OK, or you can uncheck any you don't want to update.

Another vote for a tick box to not autocheck for updates. I disable this on every application I use. I like to manually check. Thanks!

It'll be done in 5.10 version.
You can test it with the new beta https://www.ugmfree.it/Forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=473

The way the option is turned off and reactivated needs a rethink.

If you have a constant connection it's fine to deactivate and reactivate in the current way.
But my connection is not always on. As you know Gian, I use my phone at present, this means I connect as and when I need to. In these instances, it would be better to have the icon used to both activate and deactivate as it is becoming annoying every time I restart symenu or PC hearing that constant reminder.

If I could switch it off, it should stay off until I choose to reactivate it. Clicking update apps reactivates reminders, but shouldn't. Because I have to switch it back off everytime I update definitions.

Personally, I don't feel it necessary to have this reminder. For me it serves no purpose. So I would prefer the option to permanently switch it off. If you could change reactivation from clicking update app definitions to the icon, that would be more suitable.

I do understand your thinking and see why you set it that way, but it's becoming too much of an irritation for me. Please consider changing it.

With thanks...

EDIT:
I've just noticed you asked if there was a less invasive way of notifying users. I know it's not as direct, but how about adding a notification directly within the sps manager window?

I've been thinking of a way to reorganise this window a little and try to utilise the space better while retaining info etc. I'm a bit hazy on it at present but will get back to you very soon.

Do you want to know my idea of reorganization for the SPS Manager?
Have a look here https://play.google.com/store/apps wink

Regarding the other topic, the way I use to force the user to update his SPS collection seems a bit awkward but the reason is simple: it's not the final one.
I'm gradually approaching to the final way that will be the automatic and silent update for definitions.

When I reach that level you can't choose if you want to check for definitions or not but if you want to use the SPS system or not. In the same way you won't need to manually check for definition because the system does it in your place.

Why is the checking so important?
The reason is simple. Often when an SPS goes outdated it becomes not usable and can produce errors in particular if the source url changes or if it contains scripts or if the new package is available from the old url. These are the more frequent cases but there are others too. So if you want to use SPS, it has to be updated.
Naturally I will implement a system similar to Windows 10 where you can define metered connections even if the definitions download is very light (1,5MB).

Let's speak about the current situation.
Currently you receive an alert if your suite definitions are older than 10 days for SyMenu suite and 30 days for the other two.
Don't tell me that an alert every 10 days is annoying please. Or better every 30 days.
And starting from the next version (or the current beta) you can deactivate the alerts for the suites you aren't interested with.
So all the checking system should start to be sustainable.

Nice goal!!! Some way off though! wink

Onto the main topic...
Any notification is an annoyance! I don't want or need notifying of anything. But that's just me wink
AVG notifies me everyday I'm connected or not!! Drives me bonkers!

But I have a solution that works for both of us, are you willing to succumb? Stick Out Tongue

How about this... If a Suites definitions are older than those time scales you mentioned, simply delete them! this makes them unable to be used in an outdated scenario and thus forces users to update them without the need for reminders or alerts. Everyone's happy wink

But, yes, I can see what your thinking, this zipped folder is required for SyMenu and SPS Manager to see what's already added?
Hmm... There's always a workaround, it's whether you're willing to adjust?
I understand your time is Ltd, so I'm expecting this will be dropped. No problem Gian smile

The zipped cache file is not necessary to know what's is already added. It helps understanding what programs are currently outdated. Your idea could be useful but, naturally I should implement it as an option: "Don't you want to be notified? Click here." and I simply delete the zipped file.
Indeed it's exactly what is happening when you click on the heart (breaking it...). The zipped file is deleted.
Your suggested option spares you a click every 10 days and two clicks every 30 days... lazy man smile
Well I confirm it's perfectly viable but I have to evaluate it considering the final scenario when the update is automatic. I need to study it.

Anyone ever told you you're a living marvel? wink

Hmm... Lazy, me? Nah! Well maybe a little! But really, if it's not required, the option to opt out is nice.

Thanks for considering it.
I'm now a happy lazy man smile
