Hey there, ive been using SyMenu for a good few months nw and it is a very well made USB Menu. Well the best in my books. I have a couple of suggestions for the next release if thats ok.
1). Customisable tray and application icon. 2). Maybe transparency on the menu. 3). Abillity to customise the Search and Options icons too.
Thanks and keep up the good work.

hi
I am using SyMenu on my USB stick. It is very cool, lightning fast loading, skins and a lot of options. The only thing i miss, is the ability to add separators between the items. If you can add this in some of the next releases, it will be perfect
Thank You and keep up the good work
Best regards, pystha

SyMenu has been released and, as promised, you can:
- customize program icons (tray icon, search and option icons) - have a customizable transparency level on popup menu
About separator I don't like very much them because they steal space on menu. I prefer using colored folder to create program groups. In my case black folders for commands, blue folders for internet applications and so on. Have you already tried to use them?
I know that current folder icons are not so beautiful... If someone would like to create an entire set of colored folder for SyMenu I'll be very happy to replace mine :-)
Anyway if separator is a necessary function for many users I'll implement it on next release.
Let me know!

Hi,
SyMenu is very nice. Thank you for that. I know you have made one release very recently, but I have one suggestion for the coming one -
1. Add Hotkey shortcuts to the programs themselves in addition to SyMenu.
thanks again. barani.

Hi barani.
That's a very good idea. I'll put it in SyMenu todo list.
Thank you

Hi Gianluca,
I have 2 more suggestions as well.
1. Run with elevated User access control privileges. I have some programs which require elevation, but right now it is not possible to launch them from Symenu. This can just be a setting in the program configuration.
2. Auto timeout the window if I dont choose any item within 4 - 5 seconds. Right now if I click on Alt-F1 and then move to another window, the symenu stays on top. I have to click on the window again and then move the focus out to close the window, which means I cannot control this app completely with the keyboard.
thanks.

Hello to all.
Maybe you've already seen the new SyMenu (1.08). In this new version your suggestions to offer hotkey shortcuts for any program and to add separators as new item have been implemented (as several others).
About barani proposals. RunAs function is already implemented since 1.02 version (February 2009). To activate RunAs execution for any item simply press CTRL when SyMenu popup is opened until you see the right icon (see manual at Executor modifier entry for a comprehensive explanation).
Regarding barani's second suggestion I give him this advise: if you popup SyMenu and want to close it, simply press ESC button before moving to other windows. I won't implement auto close function because the behavior that you experiment is strange. Normally if SyMenu loses focus because you click another window or you switch to other windows with ALT + TAB Windows shortcut, SyMenu should disappear. Maybe it's due to some configuration of your system.

Hi again
I want to thank you for the implementing of the separators. It's great I also have 2 more suggestions if it's not a proplem... 1- Autoexec on exit (for example launching EjectUSB, or other program when quiting SyMenu, can be very usefull) 2- Abillity to customise SyMenu font size (maybe type to, but not so important)
Thank You pystha <em>edited by pystha on 21/12/2009</em>

Hello pystha.
SyMenu closing event Implementing a sort of Autoexec for exit event could be possible. I think that could be available with next release.
Customize font Allowing users to change font type and size it's easy for me to implement.
I haven't done it until now because font size is a critical feature of any Windows application.
We already have problems with multilingual because some button labels in not-English languages are too long (with default fornt) regarding available room inside controls.
In the same way Chinese language (either traditional and simplified) have problems with normal font size. Try to change SyMenu language in one of those language and you'll see that SyMenu is forced to increase font size to avoid that ideograms were cut with standard font size.
Last thing, if you try to increase your system standard font (for example 120DPI from 96DPI) you can see that SyMenu layout will become quite upset.
Because all these reasons I think that customizing font could be done but only as an advanced property (directly from configuration file) without managing that from UI. In this way only advanced users could change font and I think that they won't complain about possible strange behaviors of program :-)
Well I will think about that too.

Hello Gianluca,
Thank you for this very fast answer.
SyMenu closing event I forgot to specify that a "light mode" it could be very handy (as at the Autoexec)
Customize font It looks like this option can cause a lot of problems. I wasn't realise, sorry. Implementing as an advanced property it's a very good idea
Merry Christmas Gianluca, thank You for this fine app and keep up the good work

Hi Gianluca,
Thanks for your lightning reply. Pardon my ignorance for asking a feature that is already present inside. And I didnt know the use of the Esc key either.
And as always you rock. Have a wonderful 2010.
barani.

#1 Would be great if SyMenu could automatically mount and unmount TrueCrypt volumes.
#2 Since SyMenu is portable, it means I can create a menu structure on my laptop and take it with me on my Netbook. The smaller screen on the netbook means lots of vertical scrolling inside the containers. I have them broken down A-F, G-L, M-R, S-A and there is still a lot of scrolling. It would be a nice configuration option to have the menu expand 2 or 3 deep horizontally instead of only vertically, to accommodate portability on lower resolution screens.
The search text box is great, but I'm a point and click guy. <em>edited by Coastie on 23/12/2009</em>

Dear Coastie.
Since the auto-mounting volumes with TrueCrypt is a common request, I post a new thread regarding this question. Please see http://www.ugmfree.it/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=20.
Regarding your second question it's a very difficult task to change the normal behavior of menu. To create SyMenu I've used a standard Windows menu component so my chances to modify the way it shows itself is very low. Anyway I'll try to check for this.

Not quite the same thing as auto mount and dismount.
