SyMenu ROCKS!

SyMenu works the way I want it to!
I am using Win7 and have tried many different menu/loader/docks, and none seem to work well. Even the built in toolbar menu in Win7 has issues. The main hangup all menus seem to have in common is a long delay (~15 seconds) loading and displaying all the icons in a container menu. SyMenu does not suffer this problem. It extracts all the icons when added to the menu, and stores them in a local folder. Finally a menu that works well, and remains fast when loaded with files. I have about 200 items in the menu.
Chosen over. rocketdock objectdock appetizer portableapps.com menu launchy 7stacks standalonestak2
And a few more I forget....
Hopefully development continues |

#1 Would be great if SyMenu could automatically mount and unmount TrueCrypt volumes.
#2 Since SyMenu is portable, it means I can create a menu structure on my laptop and take it with me on my Netbook. The smaller screen on the netbook means lots of vertical scrolling inside the containers. I have them broken down A-F, G-L, M-R, S-A and there is still a lot of scrolling. It would be a nice configuration option to have the menu expand 2 or 3 deep horizontally instead of only vertically, to accommodate portability on lower resolution screens.
The search text box is great, but I'm a point and click guy. edited by Coastie on 23/12/2009 |

Not quite the same thing as auto mount and dismount. |

Batch Import Suggestion

Also, maybe you could allow the user to restrict the folder depth the importer searches through. Say, for instance, all the programs I want in the menu are one level deep, but there are other programs in deeper levels. It would be a waste for the importer to search through all those subfolders when all I really need is in the first level.
agreed, a way to choose how deep to look. The current batch import did work well for my portable apps, it only took minimal configuration after the import, I can see where selecting how deep to search would be useful. |

Worked great, thank you.
Is that a useful trick to get other programs to run with symenu? edited by Coastie on 20/01/2010 |

As some apps are not truely portable, it would be great if we could launch from SyMenu and run the app through sandboxie http://www.sandboxie.com/ So any changes made were not saved to the host computer. I'm not sure if that fits within the scope of SyMenu and sandboxie itself is not truely portable that I know of, but I know you are working on a TrueCrypt launcher, sandboxie would be another huge benifit. |

Can you tell us what new features/updates 1.10 has in store? SyMenu is without a doubt my most used/useful application on my computer. |

Great, thank you.
In a future version it would be nice if we could configure the menu delay when mousing over options or opening containers. I'd like to speed it up just a bit. Perhaps in the SyMenuConfig XML file. edited by Coastie on 7/17/2010 |

Opening a Truecrypt Volume

Create a Truecrypt volume named test.tc Configure Truecrypt with extension manager to manage extension .tc In parameters add this line: /v %1 /l T /a /p abcdefg /q background Enable extension manager.
I have done this and the file does not automatically mount and open. The main truecrypt window opens, where I need to manually select the drive letter, and then manually enter the password.
Win7 x86 SyMenu 1.11 Truecrypt 6.3a
Does something specific need to be done other than using the parameters line, and enabling extensions? What specifically does this reference? Configure Truecrypt with extension manager to manage extension .tc I have Truecrype in the symenu, checked the Extension Manager box and added .tc in the window below the check mark. |

Yes, I was aware of all that
T was available and I used the correct password.
No luck getting it to mount from SyMenu. |

sounds good, symenu is the best of many launch menus that I have tried, I hope bug fixes when needed continue. Seems development of all the best launchers halt. I'll keep checking back now and then, thanks for Symenu. |

I looked around the settings, is it possible to remove the ghezee ad from the menu? That is very annoying. I use Symenu for the simplistic display, and that ruins is. |

Thanks, 1.12 -> 1.14 works great. In the future would it also be useful to zip the icons folder? My Icons folder contains 239 icons, seems if we were worried about 3 files, 200+ may be useful too. edited by Coastie on 12/11/2011 |

I use Symenu as a start menu replacement, so I have many/many non portable apps within it. I like the clean and simple interface where I can keep a lot of data in a tight space. I do use a lot of what is on http://www.portablefreeware.com/ and http://portableapps.com/ though. I don't use portable apps because they can be moved around, I use them when possible because they don't put junk all around my OS. My 200+ portable apps are all installed on my main HDD. Thanks for the great launcher to access them all |
