No it is not possible. Every entry must correspond to one only line. We have to think to some other solution to solve your problem. |

Ok. I've got it. I will try to implement a sort of little tooltip with the entire path (or a portion of it if too long) that appear on top of any entry. I need time to try some solution I'm thinking of. Stay tuned! |

I normally not agree with any proposal that transforms SyMenu in a not portable program but it seems clear that a lot of you are using SyMenu as a Windows start menu replacement. Well I have to surrender
I will implement a new option tab for Not portable features. So your proposal to autostart SyMenu during Windows startup will be placed there. If you or others have some ideas for not portable features, let me know. |

Search file in folders new implementation

The feature of searching items in indexed folders has been released with SyMenu 2.03.
Some users ask me to make the full path of every found element clearer. It is a right request because more than one files could have the same name and it is really uncomfortable to hover the mouse pointer on every item to know which is its real full path (overing a found element make its information tooltip appears).
Well the solution I'm working on is well illustrated by the attached image. I'm waiting for feedback and suggestions. |

Yes the full path should be really long but the most important part is often the last one. This is the reason for which I show only the last part. It should be an adequate solution to uniquely recognize almost every file.
I could extend the search menu in width to show longer paths but I would like to try this new feature with the current configuration before.
Well, you will give me feedback when the next version is realeased |

Well I'm not cutting one certain folder but I'm cutting path longer than a certain number of chars.
So that if your path is something like: c:\music\mp3\rock\muse\cd1 SyMenu will show you the entire path.
I'm not in beta testing phase yet so that I'm the only human beeing on the world that are currently using this new feature |

No problem. With the revision of the search bar that you are using with the current version, the feature of counting the executions has become possible. It is my time that is not infinite |

Hi Coastie.
Don't worry the option could be used or not. If you activate it, SyMenu leaves a track on your system, otherwise it remains portable. |

SyMenu Open folder
Prerequisites SyMenu version 8.00 or higher.
Description I really hate when SyMenu opens a folder in Windows Explorer because I'm used to work with some Explorer replacement tools. BTW my favourite one is Total Commander. Well when SyMenu opens a folder I usually have to copy the full path from Explorer and past it to TC to do what I need because I totally disaccustomed to the way Explorer works.
But since SyMenu supports a "rude and raw" plugin system, why don't write anything to make this work for me??? Well this is the spirit of IT programs!!
Installation: - Download the archive and extract the folder contained into \SyMenu\Plugin\
SyMenu.Plugin.OpenFolder.zip
Changelog 2024.03.08 - New Version v0.9 - Framework update and minor graphical fixes 2018.01.02 - New Version v0.8 - Added Cubic Explorer 2017.02.25 - New Version v0.7 - Fix for Unreal Commander beta version 2015.08.09 - New Version v0.6 - Added Double Commander 2015.01.14 - New Version v0.5 - Bug fix. 2015.01.03 - New Version v0.4 - Added Q-Dir. 2014.09.21 - New Version v0.3 - Added XYplorer. 2013.11.14 - New Version v0.2 - Fixed some bug in Total Commander: now the new tab is opened on active side and not always on the left one.

Well to make SyMenu shows a menu entry for plugins you have to "install" at least one plugin.
To "install" a plugin you have to:
- update SyMenu to the last available version
- download the plugin
- unzip the package inside the SyMenu 'Plugin' folder (you can find it at the same level of Config, Icons, Profiles and ProgramFiles folders)
- every SyMenu plugin must reside inside a specific subfolder. In case of this plugin its folder is called 'SyMenu.Plugin.OpenFolder'
- restart SyMenu and configure your new plugin
I know that the procedure could be automated but for now it is not possible. Let me know if you have any problems with that (it is experimental yet). |

Issue handling shortcut links
GianlucaAdministrator

Hi Coastie.
Your proposal is not acceptable for several reasons.
First one is that when you point to a shortcut you always want to execute the resources linked to that and not the shortcut.
Second. The SyMenu ability to take the shortcuts apart is really useful, even it is not so evident, if you use the search bar to find the PC installed programs. In fact the found element list comes from the Windows Start menu that is built by several shortcuts to your programs but SyMenu is able to unpacks all those shortcuts and offer to you the direct link to the resources.
Third. The unpacking process is really important because if I ask to SyMenu to open a certain item containing folder or to show me its properties I want to point to the resources and not to the shortcut, because the shortcut properties or the containing folder are not so useful.
Anyway if you realize that SyMenu fails in unpacking a shortcut, please let me know how this shortcut is built and I'll try to make SyMenu able to manage it too. I already do that for the damn Windows Installer Advertised shortcuts (the Office shortcuts) that must be processed in a particular way to extract the final paths to the pointed resources.
One known problem of this behavior is that SyMenu can't manage the parameters inside the shortcuts it take apart... well it is in my TODO list. For now to solve this issue integrate the SyItem inside with all the starting parameters by hand. |

Thank you for your trick I can finally discard the old annoying command window.
For example this is my new TCM launcher.
path: wscript.exe additional parameters: #:\SyMenu\SilentMode.vbs "#:\SyMenu\ProgramFiles\Totalcmd\TOTALCMD64.EXE" /i="#:\SyMenu\ProgramFiles\Totalcmd\wincmd.ini" /F="#:\SyMenu\ProgramFiles\Totalcmd\wcx_ftp.ini" working directory: .\ProgramFiles\Totalcmd |

The problem is always the same: SyMenu doesn't extract the command arguments from the shortcuts. With the next version I will implement this feature and it will solve your issue too. |

Why my Extension Manager doesn't work?
GianlucaAdministrator
|
I resurrect this thread because some users regularly ask me how to bypass the limitations of SyMenu Extension Manager.
I would like to suggest to everybody to use a great tool that works with the file extensions with a really brilliant approach.
This tool is eXpresso (http://gluxon.com/apps/eXpresso).
eXpresso monitors Explorer Window (and others windows if configured) and intercepts every execution action such as double click or enter key on every file. When such an event occurs, eXpresso analyzes the extension of the file clicked. If it finds that this extension is among the managed ones, it prevents the normal Windows behaviour and takes control over the event, launching the file with its custom associated program.
Well it is surely a superior behavior than the extension manager and it succeed in remain portable. Well I not even try to rewrite it by scratch. So my advise is really simple: if you are not satisfied by the SyMenu Extension Manager, use eXpresso.
You can work with SyMenu and eXpresso together following this instructions:
- copy eXpresso in your SyMenu program folder;
- add it to SyMenu and configure this new entry checking the SyMenu Autoexec on start checkbox. In that way eXpresso will start when SyMenu starts;
- now clone the eXpresso entry and uncheck the Autoexec on start checkbox on the new item and check the SyMenu Autoexec on close. This entry must be completed with the program argument /exit that makes eXpresso quit. In that way eXpresso will quit when SyMenu quits;
- start SyMenu and configure the eXpresso tool with all your managed extensions.

Feature request:change extension management

Dear tupman.
I'm very happy you are so satisfied about SyMenu. Now let's examine your question.
First of all give a read to this thread http://www.ugmfree.it/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=51 It well explains how SyMenu Extension Manager works (you guessed anyway), why it can't work in some circumstances and why I can't modify it in the direction you suggest to preserve the SyMenu portability.
Now let's try to analyze your question. I don't understand if your problem really lies on the file association or if it is another... because you speak about a macro trigger that launches other program. In this case the file association does not matter. Another strange thing is your failure in using eXpresso. This terrific tool is the ideal counterpart for SyMenu and I've just completed the thread I pointed out above with a step to step explanation on how using eXpresso. So please explain better your problem. I understand all about your application but I don't understand the logical flow of your program execution, that is the only important thing. If you prefer contacting me directly, go to this page http://www.ugmfree.it/ContactMail.aspx?LANG=en and post your message from here. |

Dear users.
I've just released the new 2.07 version of SyMenu. In this version I've introduced two major features: the contextual menu could be freely moved around the screen and could be pinned to stay visible even after a click. These two features are really experimental and not so well tested as usual so please report any bugs or strange behaviors. Last but not least I finally solved the problem of the loosing shortcuts. If someone suffers again for this boring and annoying bug let me know!
Have fun. |
