Change root destination for every program

It's not possible because SyMenu doesn't work this way. I can't understand why your items have an absolute path BTW.
SyMenu works always with relative paths so for example this is a typical path: .\ProgramFiles\SPSSuite\SyMenuSuite\CCS64_sps\CCS64.exe while this is a wrong one: H:\SyMenu\ProgramFiles\SPSSuite\SyMenuSuite\CCS64_sps\CCS64.exe
And this is exactly the reason for which when a SyMenu user moves its SyMenu installation and all the programs under its control, from a folder to another or from a unit to another, he needs to do nothing to make it works. When I attach my pen drive in a new PC I don't need to care about the unit letter the PC gives to my unit. SyMenu works the same. This is portability!
Why do your programs have absolute paths? |

Since no user has supported your request until now, I won't fully implement the feature.
Anyway since I'm in Santa Claus mood in this period , with the next SyMenu version you'll have this workaround: - run SyMenu 6.08 at least once;
- close SyMenu;
- open the file [SyMenu]\Config\SyMenuConfig.zip and unzip it. You'll get an xml file called SyMenuConfig.xml; - open the file with a simple text editor; - search for the string "tooltipItems". You'll find something like <tooltipItems enabled="True" tooltip="Shortcut,Path" duration="5000" /> - change the duration attribute from "5000" to "15000" (it's the value in milliseconds so you can put there whatever you want); - save the file and repack it in the SyMenuConfig.zip; - run SyMenu; - your tooltips will remain open for 15 seconds.
Note: - always backup your configuration file because is very easy to corrupt it if you don't know what you are doing; - the workaround will work only with the next SyMenu version (v6.08). |

New SyMenu beta version 6.08
GianlucaAdministrator

Dear users,
This was a really complex version to develop and for this reason, it will probably be affected with some bugs. This is the reason for which I published a beta version, because you can help me to test it.
The most important features I introduced in this version are: - the VirusTotal.com integration; - the automatic check to verify if the installed programs from the SyMenu Suite, are updated.
Well there are other features too, but let's analyze these two only for now.
The VirusTotal integration allows you to have an AV report for every single SyMenu Suite program.
Currently me and the other SPS editors, are reviewing all the programs to make the report available for all of them. Unfortunately it's a huge job so, please, try to be sympathetic with us and don't expect that every program will be already checked at the time of the final release. Anyway the most common and important ones are already checked. The VirusTotal report allows you to evaluate the reliability of a program you want to install, before the installation.
VirusTotal checks every package with more than 50 AV software so their report is surely more reliable than a single one, produced from a single AV software. You can even navigate to the VT web site with a click and get all the details related with that particular report.
Anyway, please, pay attention! A static analysis on a program package has not the same quality as an active monitoring on that program made on your PC. The VirusTotal service is not intended to replace a good AV software that you must have installed locally!!!!! It's only a way to have a first opinion on a program reliability.
With the second feature, a just started SyMenu, can check online for outdated SyMenu Suite programs. If something new is found, it alerts you changing the "Get new apps" contextual menu entry with a more explicit, but unobtrusive "Updates available". It changes its icon color too from blue to green. In the future I will evaluate if this alert can be shown even in some other ways.
It's all for now.
If someone wants to report something, you already know that you can get in touch with me with a post here in the forum, or through a forum private message, or through the contact form, or with an email.
Cheers.

It seems that your NOD32 version is not agreeing with the rest of the AV world even if itself.
See here: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/url/073554db4efea10a996c8e1c3845595c6b16e549549f44b9638fe675096466c0/detection
The report has been generated yesterday.
Plus you can check the web site here too https://www.ip-tracker.org/blacklist-check.php?ip=dpcdn-s14x.pl Definitely not blacklisted.
Is your AV definitions updated?

Checking an IP is not always the best method to check for a web site trustfulness. You can have hundred of domains on a single IP. Try for example to reverse lookup the ugmfree.it domain (https://viewdns.info/reverseip/?host=ugmfree.it&t=1). Well I hope I'm not sharing my web space with so many of them... All that to say that you should always go with the domain name.
The Norton service highlights 4 files hosted on the web site. Three of them are hacking tool and we know how the AVs consider these kind of software. The forth seems to really be a virus.
So what's the point? The Polish web site hosts one program with a virus, while they probably host thousands of others that are perfectly clean.
Is this enough to ban the entire web site? IMHO it's not. And the other services I mentioned say it's not the same since the web site is not black listed. Moreover we are downloading other files from there that are not affected.
What should a SyMenu user do with the programs hosted over a suspect web site? Definitely what he wants. If he think it's too dangerous downloading from there he can download the package from a more trustful source and use those packages to install the program inside SyMenu. Or he can totally give up with that program.
I want to use this occasion to be clear as I never be.
Downloading anything from the Internet is always dangerous and SyMenu doesn't grant in any way that what you are downloading can't be harmfull for you PC!!! When you first enter the program you accept a license that makes this very clear and legally effective.
Ok now that I'm good with my own protection, I can become nice again
Starting from the next version you will have a report from VirusTotal for every single program hosted in the SyMenu suite. So you will have a further way to evaluate the trustability of the hosted programs. If you want to play with this new feature, you can already do that downloading the SyMenu beta version from here: https://www.ugmfree.it/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=721

Update your definitions and you'll find it. Anyway next time, why don't you try to add the program you like by yourself?
I decided not to increase the number of programs I'm managing because it's already astonishing but the SyMenu suite is opened to the other users contributions.
Who knows, maybe you'll find the activity so nice that you will decide to become an hard core SPS editor |

The download link is OK but I know that sourceforge occasionally can be very slow in replying.
In this case I suggest you to download the package with the browser (copy the url from the red arrow available among the program details) and install it locally (right click on the program row and choose the option accordingly). For further info, please read the manual. |

It's only a timeout problem.
I have a request for all the users: let me know how often the sourceforge packages creates timeout problems. Just in case it's a real and widespread problem, I can workaround it increasing the timeout, that's currently 10 secs, for those particular packages only. |

Every textual search all around the program (context menu, SPS Manager, Configuration form) works in AND mode.
So the answer is yes, but you'll always find only the elements that contains all the terms. |

How many interesting suggestions here...
Currently SyMenu allows you to search its own programs by name or by description. But you already know that because your search is set by description that is not the default searching mode.
Now, what can I automatically add inside a program description? Any kind of text indeed, even if I can't add active links because description is only in plain text.
Anyway some kind of tagging system already exists in SyMenu. If you open an SPS description, at the end of the text, you'll probably find something like this: #productivity #audio #editor ...
These tags are added accordingly to the category stuck to any program you have in the "Get new apps" form.
Can I add other tags or simple text? For example can I add the publisher?
Yes sure I can.
So in the 6.09v you'll probably find this new feature.
With the occasion I'll solve an inconsistency that exists today.
The automatic tags are only added when you install a program with the option to install it in a folder named as its category.
My intention is to always add the tags independently from the option.
This feature will not be available for programs already installed because I can't know if their descriptions has been changed by the user or not.
Your option will be to remove the programs and install then again but you'll risk to lose the program configurations, or to add the information you need to every description by hand... it's a huge activity I know.
What do you think about this scenario? |

Welcome to the community!
The scrolling problem is very strange. I can't reproduce it in Windows 10. The first time I find a Win7 system, I'll test it. By the way, what are your display settings? I'm particularly interested in the percentage of zoom your system is set.
Regarding the others SPS I'll alerting the editors ASAP.
Thank you for the report. |

Nope sorry.
The configuration form is the place where you can manage your items but it's not able to manage the items in bulk. Indeed the SPS Manager is born with bulk operation in mind. Anyway... Since I will implement the feature with the 6.09 why don't you wait for it? NirSoft programs don't have any user configuration so you'll be able to remove them all and reinstall them all with the new tag. Otherwise you can try to directly modify the item configuration file (it's a simple xml file). The field description is what you are searching for. If you want to try this solution, please backup you file before taking any action. If something goes wrong you risk loosing your entire items configuration. |

Right! Right! It's a bug.
I didn't think that adding a new status could have some effects on the search too. Anyway the unique filter when it disappears and it should be shown is the "Added" one. It hasn't to show with the others.
With the next version it'll be fixed. Thank you for your report.

The new version is finally out. It's a great new version with some useful new features. I'm sorry if some bugs are still there, but the users feedback on the beta version were quite positive. Anyway, please report any oddity you will found.
This is the changelog:
- When some SPS programs are outdated, SyMenu alerts the user directly from the contextual menu
- The VirusTotal.com report has been included and published for the SyMenu suite applications
- An SPS program flagged as auto update, is highlight with a new banner AUT when its definition is just updated
- Alert for massive program installation under the SyMenu root to avoid performance issues
- The two options to install under the suite named folder have been removed
- Custom tooltip duration can be set directly in the configuration file
- Fix for occasional failure on SSL handshake
- 7zip new version
Enjoy! |

can't create program suites
GianlucaAdministrator
|
I removed the 3rd and 4th buttons that were able to separate the new installed programs by suites so now you have only two buttons: - the first puts everything on the root; - the second puts everything inside folders named accordingly to the programs categories.
Why this breaking change? Because in a while the three native suites become one single suite. So NirSoft and Sysinternals will be added to the SyMenu suite. You'll be able to create your own custom suites as you do today and probably we'll have a feature to add thirty party suites.
Anyway, when SyMenu puts the programs inside certain logical folders, you are free to re-organize your menu as you like. I strongly suggest to do that because the organization based on native category is not the best organization for everyone. You and only you know how your programs must be organized. |
