I found SyMenu the other day and after using it a while decided I liked it. I think it's a worthwhile project and a project that could go far. You've done a nice job on it. Congrats.

As I was using it I thought it would be nice if you could just Right click anywhere on screen and SyMenu would appear.

So that got me thinking if I could manually edit to get SyMenu as a Right click context menu option. Trouble is, W7 (x64) has taken the "Edit File Type" "Action" function away and your left with a HKEY ROOT registry hack - which I tried, but it didn't work out.

Have you any ideas how I can achieve what I want - or any future plans to incorporate such an option?

Many thanks and great work with SyMenu.

Hello.

Contextual menu on right click is a Windows standard function.
It's not possible neither appropriate change this functionality especially by a portable application because a portable app must not leave any footprint on the system it runs on.
SyMenu probably could intercept the right click and manage this event without changing the system (I mean without changing system registry) but sincerely who cares losing Windows contextual menu? It's a very useful tool to lost.

If you want to add SyMenu as a new item on Windows contextual right click menu instead, try this link.
You can map on your new entry the SyMenu executable full path. In fact if you re-launch SyMenu when a session is already active you'll see SyMenu contextual menu pops up without starting a new fresh one.

If this solution can fit your need please let us know!

Thanks

Hi Gianluca, thanks for the reply. I realise SyMenu is mainly used as a portable application launcher but it does a very good job as a start menu launcher on a local hard drive. Example, I was looking for a replacement for "Free Launch Bar", nice little app, you can hover the mouse cursor over "FLB" and the menu comes up (without clicking). Very convenient and good for 'work flow'. But the program lacks in other areas. SyMenu allows you to organise things better.

I just think it's got excellent potential for those wishing to use it full time on their local hard drive. Which is why I say having a 'right click' option to have the menu show up anywhere. It's good for speed, work flow. Instead of having to go down to the taskbar all the time where SyMenu is pinned (W7).

Same goes for the menu appearing when the mouse cursor is placed over a pinned SyMenu icon on the taskbar in W7. It's less clicking and smoother.

I'm just saying this out loud as I use SyMenu and think: "that would be nice." I have no idea if any of it is possible, or whether you even want to take the app in that direction. I'm just thinking out loud as I use it.

Thanks very much for the link, btw. I'll try it and get back to you. smile

Reading your reply I realize that what you probably need is a fast way to popup SyMenu at all. But this is an already available feature.
Go to SyMenu main form, select Configuration - Options menu, go on Hot Keys tab and enable shortcut manager. It works only with keyboard but it is a very time-saving way to use SyMenu.
It allows you to use SyMenu entirely with keys, especially if you check the Set focus on search bar flag.
Give it a try.

Probably a little late on this post, but you can do like I do and configure one of your mouse buttons to work with a shortcut. I do this with my Logitech mouse. I have an extra button I don't use and I go to the Logitech config and program one of the mouse buttons to perform a keyboard shortcut which I have linked to SyMenu. Now any time I press that button on my mouse, SyMenu pops up.
