Thanks for the suggestions. I have used WSCC for many years but it is not as "slick" as SyMenu, although it seems to have a smaller background footprint (from my basic Task Manager analysis, 17.4MB vs 62.1MB), but I doubt not enough to worry about. Of course WSCC has things that Symenu does not.

- For PortableApps not in SyMenu I do a file manager search on *Portable.exe in folder ....\PortableApps\PortableApps and drag the result into a new container in the SyMenu Configuration window, and similar for a few remaining items in Liberkey. I must say dragging into the Configuration window has to be done a few at a time or they end up in the wrong place, which would not be so bad if it was possible to drag more than 1 item at a time within the Configuration window.

So for now the most I need to run in the background is WSCC and SyMenu, and even without them running in the background I can Pin my regulars to the Windows Taskbar (or a shortcut to a Taskbar
Toolbar folder)

Regardless, works very well. Thanks

Also another workaround:
Install in Symenu (from Nirsoft) WSCC which is an "integrator" for sytem tools (from Nirfoft or other source ...)
It's a bit "duplicating" some symenu functions (because it also updates Nirsoft tools), but it works fine
Lupusbalo

Many thanks for the prompt reply, has given me the impetus to check out the manual again. However whatever I do does not include items from the Nirsoft suite via
"Search Items" from the main menu (pop up from taskbar).
But no problem I have my workaround.

jimlad68 wrote:

When I "Search Items" from the main menu (pop up from taskbar) it does not show items from the Nirsoft Suite.

It does indeed.
If a NirSoft program is installed it has no peculiar status, it is a simple item, so you will find it among the other searched items.
Remember the search works on the item names (if you leave the default options). So if you install "NirCmd x64" and search for "nirc" the item pops up but if you search for "nir cmd", well the name is not the right one, so nothing will be found.
Read here for the other search options:https://www.ugmfree.it/manual#Advanced_menu_Options_Search
I don't think it's your case but there are further search settings you should be aware of described here: https://www.ugmfree.it/manual#SearchItems4

jimlad68 wrote:

Although the search works from the "configuration" menu, that does not include Host programs.

It's normal behaviour.
The host programs are dynamically discovered because they can change from day to day. It will be pointless to configure them. SyMenu can configure only what's under its control.
