SyMenu icon remains in the middle

You mean that SyMenu works on an maintenance environment too???? This program never stops to amaze me Well with your confession naturally the bug report becomes less important than ever
I'm currently studying a way to make SyMenu works in a more interesting environment (Windows server core). With those server installation SyMenu suffers some problems with the Windows graphical components such as the open file dialog and save file dialog. But I trust to solve this little problems. Maybe during my experiments I will solve your bug too. |

SyMenu icon remains in the middle

It is quite difficult to do that. The configuration file is [SyMenu]\Config\SyMenuConfig.zip This zipped file contains an xml file SyMenuConfig.xml. The xml content node for locations is "startMenuLocations". Probably you will find several children nodes because SyMenu stores the location for every PC it runs on. You should force the node with the attribute host equal to your PE machine name.
Whatch out. If you corrupt the configuration file SyMenu won't start anymore until you delete the xml file. But at this point you have already lost your configuration. |

:-) The reply is naturally no. The machine name works for every OS except PE.
Rather try to search a way to keep a static machine name in WinPE, the problem is there. |

Feature Request Explore Folder
GianlucaAdministrator
|
Hi Dave.
The behavior you desire is already, partially, available in SyMenu.
If you are exploring the folder structure from within "My Computer" try to press CTRL key once (don't hold it) and then right or left click the folder entry: the corresponding folder will be opened in explorer or better into your preferred explorer replacement tool if you use SyMenu Open Folder plugin (http://www.ugmfree.it/Forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=85).
The CRTL key activates the Executor modifier that is thought exactly for these cases (http://www.ugmfree.it/SyMenuManual.aspx#Executor_Modifier).
I said "partially available" because the click with the executor modifier doesn't work on the disk unit roots. Indeed this is a bug but I don't know when I succeed in correct it. |

Window text size set a 125% or 150%

Great news!!!
With the next SyMenu version you'll have a native magnified font. I thought to implement five predefined font size starting from the default one (the smaller) to a huge one (30-32px). The custom sized font will be available on the contextual menu and not in the configuration forms.
I'm implemented the new feature during these days so I have to experiment a lot before releasing and above all I have to study the interactions with the Windows magnified font (125%-150%) because this setting could break the native font proportions.
Stay tuned for further news. |

Custom folder for downloaded SPS
GianlucaAdministrator

Hi guys. A fantastic idea came to me. Why not use symbolic link (symlinks)? SyMenu will continue thinking that its folders are in the usual place but you can put them whenever you want.
I've just added in the SyMenu SPS suite a tool to help you creating simlinks, it's called Symlink Creator, but before use it I recommend to understand well what a symbolic link is and what's happening when you delete it....
Let me know. |

Wierd Bug in SPS manager

Hi Regmos.
It is always nice to find a big bug like this the day after an important release but it is a part of the game
As you rightly observed the problem is related to all the freshest SPS files. The fix is trivial and I think that in the next days I can release a new version to repair this problem.
Please XP and Vista users, be patient and, meanwhile, change your OSs because they are dead |

Corrupt SPS file

Hi Regmos.
You did everything right and it is probably a bug in the SPS Builder. In fact if you put your SPS file inside the special SyMenu folder [SyMenu]\ProgramFiles\SPSSuite\SyMenuSuite\_CacheCustom you will be able to install it in SyMenu without any problem. I create this folder exactly to include a custom SPS file.
I see you already load the SPS on the cloud and since it is correct I'll publish ASAP then, quietly , I'll try to find and fix this annoying bug on the SPS Builder.
I ask you only a little modification. The program licence is freeware but it should be more correct to signal that the freeware version is only a trial version. Do you agree?
Thank you so much for your help!! |

Weird. It seems to me that the bug affects only the ipconfig command when you add a switch. If you try to launch an ipconfig without any switch the command replies regularly. If you add any switch, not only /flushdns but /all, /release, /renew..., it doesn't work. The only switch that seems to work is /?.
Well I have to study the problem. In the meanwhile you can easily workaround the problem pressing the button Execute on CMD to repeat the command in the normal command window. |

Well... SPS is too young, I think I'm the only person in the world able to reply to such a question
I read well the license of RightNote. Ok, it's a mess (trial for professional and then go to the freeware...) and I haven't understood well. Anyway you are right the program is fully freeware. No need to change the SPS. And it is online!
Thank you. |

Well it's my fault... This is a core feature of any Windows program that works with the files. I've should implement it since version 1. Thank you for your report.
Download your SPS suite from the SyMenu SPS Manager and you'll find the new SPS Builder with the Open with feature enabled. How many 'SPS' on this sentence...

Well you are partially right.
I've just add a new faq about the Built in updater. Anyway every field in the Builder has a little question mark icon on the right. If you click on it you can read a little explanation about the meaning of the element. |

Well this could be a bug. If you check the built in flag the SPS Manager shouldn't propose an update... I have to study the problem.
Thanks to you for the report instead. Thanks to users like you SyMenu, the SPS thing, and this web site are becoming better and better |

A jar program configuration in SyMenu
GianlucaAdministrator
|
Normally a jar program could be executed with a simple double click. In fact, if Java is correctly installed and your environment is well configured, the jar extension is associated with the java.exe program that takes care of the jar file and executes it.
But what if, for example, you have no Java installed? Or what if your jar association is broken? Or you want to execute a program with a different version of Java?
My example doesn't want to be exaustive or the best solution in the world but it is only a fast and clean solution to this problem.
For first I put an entire JRE under the SyMenu control. My main SyMenu installation resides in an USB device so my JRE becomes completely portable. I have some jar programs on the same USB device and I want they execute regardless on the local PC Java installation or lack of it. I create an empty program item inside the SyMenu configuration form. I link the path with my portable JRE java executable (i.e. .\ProgramFiles\JavaRuntimeEnvironment\bin\java.exe). In the Additional Params section, inside the Program Arguments textbox, I put the parameter that Java needs to execute the jar (i.e. -jar JCloisterZone.jar). For last in the Advanced section, inside the Working Directory textbox, I put the folder in which the jar program is located (i.e. #:\SyMenu\ProgramFiles\SPSSuite\SyMenuSuite\JCloisterZone_-_Carcassone_clone_sps). Done. You have your jar program executing with your portable JRE environment.
Note that there are a lot of different configuration you could choose between.
For example the Working Directory not only support the universal unit identifier (#:\) but you can choose a more common relative path. The string then becomes: .\ProgramFiles\SPSSuite\SyMenuSuite\JCloisterZone_-_Carcassone_clone_sps
Or you can remove the Working Directory string and work only with the parameters, replacing the Program Arguments with this string: -jar #:\SyMenu\ProgramFiles\SPSSuite\SyMenuSuite\JCloisterZone_-_Carcassone_clone_sps\JCloisterZone.jar
Note again that the command line parameters don't support relative paths and remember that in case your path as some spaces inside you have to put the entire path among quotation marks... well Windows rules here. |
